The City of Greater Sudbury has selected a downtown site for the new Event Centre. This modern facility will be built in the blocks bordered by Minto, Van Horne, Brady, and Shaughnessy Streets. The cutting-edge event centre will be a key driver in revitalizing the downtown area and fostering a vibrant and sustainable urban core.   JLR is excited to collaborate on this landmark project alongside our partners BBB Architects.   With a seating capacity of approximately 6,000, the Event Centre will serve as a regional hub for arts, culture, sports, and entertainment. This venue will meet the evolving needs of the community, becoming a vibrant gathering spot and a significant economic asset for the region. The project is slated for completion in spring 2028.   JLR has proudly served the Sudbury area for 50 years. Supported by a local team of over 80 architects, engineers, and planners. JLR was thrilled to be part of the groundbreaking ceremony of the North Bay Community and Recreation Centre. Set to be completed in summer 2026, the facility is racing to be the first arena certified under the Canada Green Building Council Zero Carbon Building Design Standard Version 3.   The $63 million project will offer modern and accessible spaces to support recreation and wellness for the decades to come. The facility will offer two NHL-sized ice pads, a community room, a walking track, and 14 dressing rooms to accommodate indoor and outdoor activities, making it a year-around facility.   JLR, as Prime Consultant, is providing a full suite of multidisciplinary engineering services in collaboration with our partners on this progressive design-build project. JLR thanks the City of North Bay, EllisDon (lead and design-build contractor), BBB Architects (architectural partner), Aboud & Associates (landscape designer), The Aquila Group (mechanical design partner), and other project partners.
