Today we mark National Day for Truth and Reconciliation and Orange Shirt Day. It is a day to honour the Indigenous children who never returned home from residential schools and to grieve alongside the Survivors, their families and communities. With events happening in communities throughout the country, there are many ways to learn more and commemorate the legacy of residential schools. #NationalDayForTruthandReconciliation #OrangeShirtDay

Today, on the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation and Orange Shirt Day, we honour the survivors of residential schools and those who didn’t make it home, as well as their families and communities, and we commemorate the history and legacy of residential schools. The lasting consequences for Indigenous individuals and families affected are not contained within a day and so we continue to acknowledge the thee eat (truth) of our country’s history as we take action to eradicate Indigenous-specific racism in the health care system. Please join us in acknowledging this day and working toward reconciliation through action. Together we can build a truly safe and equitable health care system where everyone feels welcome.

UBC SPPH's Dr. Gina Ogilvie is leading a project on cervical cancer that has recently been awarded a Translational Grant of $800,000 from the V Foundation for Cancer Research. ➡ bit.ly/3TqAmWM The project, titled “Developing new methods of cervical cancer screening with improved accuracy”, will evaluate the role of the microbiome and HPV in cervical cancer progression.
