🔥 A Wake-Up Call for Ontario: The True Cost of Predatory Renovation & Mortgage Fraud 🔥 For over a year, I’ve been speaking out about this particular fraud in home renovations including at last year’s home show in Collingwood... I shared this exact story—the same scam that has shaken communities across Ontario. Even then, many locals hadn’t heard that these fraudsters had preyed upon their own community, stealing homes and security from vulnerable homeowners, often seniors. Now, through Project Nettle, Ontario’s Serious Fraud Office has made key arrests, and the magnitude of this crisis is finally coming to light. This is not just another case of theft. People in places like Collingwood, Mississauga, and beyond have been targeted by door-to-door scammers who used fraudulent mortgages and false promises to strip them of their life savings and, in many cases, their homes. In June 2023 (https://lnkd.in/gDddMAH4), a Mississauga lawyer Danielle Shannon Harrison faced license suspension for her alleged role in this predatory scheme, and more arrests continue to follow as of yesterday. At Bidmii, we hear these horror stories too often. Our mission is to protect homeowners by holding project funds in trust, so no one can pull the rug out from under them. But it’s clear there’s more work to be done to ensure that communities understand the scope of these threats and take action to safeguard themselves.
