So great to see and meet the awesome Shawn Kanungo irl at the Ontario Community Support Association (OCSA) conference! I've been a fan since his pandemic days when he was presenting in empty theatres. I also often recommend his book, The Bold Ones, to clients. Having worked in the sector for the last 16 years I know the people attending are resourceful, creative and innovative and so the presentation really landed. I'm also grateful to anyone who encourages people to think about incorporating PLAY into work and highlights how incremental changes--including mindset-- can have a BIG IMPACT. (True story: Big Eye Innovation is actually a bit of a tongue in cheek name). Also, I have to admit it was kinda nice to sit back and enjoy the conference instead of presenting/co-ordinating a gazillion moving pieces like last year's 😉. Despite being a highly visual person, I suck at remembering to take pictures at events I run. Such was the case for yesterday's #strategicplanning session with the wonderful peeps at Home & Community Support Services Grey Bruce . It was an action-packed day to help Carolyn Laitinen, MBA, BBA and her dedicated team to set priorities for year two of their strategic plan. Some of my favourite feedback on the day? "I like how we made strategic planning less overwhelming." "I like being able to contribute." "I like: the day, the flow, the activities, the priorities and the videos." "I like knowing how to move forward." Honestly this kind of feedback warms my ❤️ and makes all the planning (and driving) worth it. Also, as a little aside, I tried out a fun #AI tool called Pictory that generated a summary video of Strategic Pillar priorities to help highlight the accomplishments of the day. It worked!!! Despite my oddly serious look in this shot, facilitating yesterday's #worldcafe workshop with Sinai Health and the #ScienceOfCareInstitute was a LOT of fun 😀 (and a lot of hard work by a dedicated team lead by the venerable Marianne Saragosa, RN PhD). Thanks for allowing Big Eye Innovation to help facilitate the day! 🙏 🙏🙏 There was also a great overview of the wonderful work of UHN's NORC Innovation Centre by Jen Recknagel. The day, funded by a Canadian Institutes of Health Research | Instituts de recherche en santé du Canada planning grant, was a great opportunity to foster discussion between #seniors , people in #homeandcommunitycare the City of Toronto #researchers , #policymakers and even those running #tech businesses to talk about #equity considerations when it comes to #aginginplace #technology and Naturally Occurring Retirement Communities or #NORCs . My key take- aways? Tech needs to be: --Purposeful and not just "tech for tech's sake" --Universally designed for people with physical, language, knowledge and other differences --Considerate of those with limited resources or outside help --Supported by PEOPLE and empowered through human RELATIONSHIPs ❤️
