Congratulations to CHA member EverWind on their $50 million investment to launch a new three-vessel fleet of advanced, lower-emission tugboats in the Strait of Canso. This project, one of the largest private sector investments in the Strait of Canso in the last 50 years, will have a significant impact on the local economy, creating good long-term jobs and leveraging the experience and expertise of local skilled workers to strengthen Nova Scotia’s position as a leader in sustainable maritime operations. “This investment is a critical step in enabling large-scale green hydrogen and ammonia production with our international partners. By integrating new advanced tugboats into our operations, following the strictest IMO emissions standards, we’re ensuring safe, efficient, and sustainable maritime logistics that support the international transition to clean energy,” said Trent Vichie, CEO and Founder of EverWind. “EverWind is proud to lead the charge in building the infrastructure needed to position Nova Scotia as a key global hub for green hydrogen and ammonia exports.” Read the full story here: https://lnkd.in/ghkRB5mA #hydrogen #hydrogenenergy #hydrogenindustry #cleanenergy #cleantech #netzero #lowcarbon #novascotia #greenenergy #decarbonization

Canadian Hydrogen Association (CHA) reposted this
Hydrogen is expected to play a key role in powering the economy going forward, and momentum is underway around the world to secure strong, reliable suppliers. A year ago, Canada and Germany signed an agreement to support clean hydrogen trade between the two countries. Since then, we've made significant progress to secure early access for Canadian clean hydrogen producers in the German market. Canada is committed to advancing the hydrogen economy, both domestically and as a global supplier of clean hydrogen. Atlantic Canada in particular is already seeing significant movement to seize the economic opportunity this presents for the region, including the creation of thousands of jobs and attracting investment and new economic opportunities. A new report by the Hydrogen Council, finds that, despite a challenging environment for clean hydrogen, the effective implementation of existing policies could support the business case for the uptake of ~8 Mt p.a. of clean hydrogen across the European Union, the United States and East Asia by 2030. The Hydrogen: Closing the Cost Gap report, developed with the analytical support of McKinsey & Company, highlights that this can be achieved by the transposition of the EU Renewable Energy Directive (REDIII) at EU country level, rollout of Japan’s Contracts for Difference mechanism (CfD) and South Korea’s Clean Hydrogen Portfolio Standard (CHPS), and implementation of hydrogen-related sections of the US Inflation Reduction Act (IRA), resulting in either reducing the production cost of clean hydrogen and its derivatives or mandating or otherwise incentivizing their use.
