👏 Congratulations to our member Masdar (Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company) and Emirates Steel Arkan - EMSTEEL on the inauguration of the MENA region's first renewable hydrogen-based project. This project will participate to the decarbonization of the UAE’s steel sector, by producing green steel, a product sought by manufacturers to support their #NetZero goals. "This project demonstrates world-class innovation as a result of our partnership with EMSTEEL to produce green steel utilizing green hydrogen. Decarbonization of hard-to-abate industries is vital to the global undertaking to achieve the objectives of the historic UAE Consensus agreed at COP28. Green hydrogen is an essential element in advancing national and global decarbonization efforts and we are proud to be at the forefront of that endeavor." Masdar Chief Executive Officer, Mohamed Jameel Al Ramahi, noted. #hydrogen #decarbonization #greensteel

"Policies should reward better GHG performance and drive continuous improvement over time” - this is the key takeaway from the latest International Energy Agency (IEA) report on sustainable fuels produced in support of the Brazil #G20 Presidency. 🔨 The report points to the need for the use of GHG emissions abatement value as the backbone for the design of policy incentives for sustainable fuels, including hydrogen and its derivatives. 👥 Convergence on robust global methodologies for GHG emissions assessment of hydrogen and derivatives is a critical area for collaboration for governments internationally to help build investor trust and unlock private capital. ⚠️ As the next step, in addition to GHG emissions values, other sustainability attributes such as the use of land and water need to be considered. As the report points out, “the absence of unified policy approaches to account for [such attributes] can deter investment and, ultimately, slow down the energy transition.” 🔗Read the full report here: https://lnkd.in/giay2xMv José Miguel Bermúdez Menéndez, Paolo Frankl International Energy Agency (IEA), ISO - International Organization for Standardization, UNIDO
