The #ElectrolyserPartnership, launched in 2022 under the European Clean Hydrogen Alliance umbrella and coordinated by Hydrogen Europe and DG GROW of the European Commission, just published a paper with its views on the #CleanIndustrialDeal - the EU’s new framework to relaunch industrial policy while meeting #Europe’s ambitious climate goals. #Cleanhydrogen will be a cornerstone of Europe’s industrial revamp, offering a pathway to both #decarbonisation and economic growth. Scaling up #hydrogen production and its derivatives like #steel, #fertilisers and #efuels can reinforce Europe’s supply chains, drive demand for domestic #molecules and technologies, spur innovation, whilst support job creation and economic growth. However, barriers to uptake still need to be removed: regulatory ambiguity, delays in the national implementation of targets, high electricity prices, slow development of hydrogen infrastructure, and uneven international level playing field. The Electrolyser Partnership calls to action encompass: 👉 Generate clear and additional demand for hydrogen and green products 👉 Simplify hydrogen legislation, make it coherent and strengthen enforcement of existing regulations 👉 Boost resilience and create a fair, competitive and reciprocal level playing field for electrolysers and clean hydrogen products 👉 Improve funding support and provide clarity on existing EU funding mechanisms to derisk the ecosystem The Electrolyser Partnership invites Executive Vice Presidents Stéphane Séjournéé and Teresa Ribera to ensure that the Clean Industrial Deal delivers the right tools to unlock Europe’s hydrogen leadership, enabling its #electrolyser ecosystem to create a competitive, resilient and decarbonised European industry. The Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez confirms the objective of making Spain a “global epicentre” of the #greenhydrogen revolution: “We cannot continue to depend on foreign oil and gas. The time has come to break free”. Spain aims to become a world power in #renewableenergy , to be a leader in #cleanenergy both in electrons (with a massive deployment of wind and photovoltaic energy ) and in molecules (with green hydrogen as a bulwark). And the Government’s plans and objectives include continuing to promote the expansion of green energy in the country. “Green, baby, green” proclaimed Sánchez, contrasting his policy of promoting renewable energy with the plans announced by the new President of the United States, Donald Trump, to relaunch the energy sector for the production and extraction of #fossilfuels, which he summarised in his famous “Drill, baby, drill”. https://lnkd.in/dNecdA7f 📷 Hydrogen Central

Today, our CEO Jorgo Chatzimarkakis attended the third Enagás Hydrogen Day, participating in a roundtable on the #decarbonisation challenges that #Europe faces and the role of #cleanhydrogen in overcoming them. Here are some key points that emerged from the day: The already agreed legislation such as #REDIII and the #RFNBO Delegated Acts, as well as the objectives set for 2030 and beyond should remain unchanged. However, Member States have now to go through with the transposition of RED III, which will impose further obligations onto their industries, already struggling in a very competitive global environment. #H2Europe proposes the creation of lead markets for those sectors that are faced with more difficulties, namely: 🔵#refineries 🔵#steel 🔵#fertilisers 🔵#datacentres – the new kid on the block with an extensive demand of energy. Special conditions should be created for those markets, so as to simplify #regulation and accelerate #investment into the #cleanhydrogen solutions that can suit them. #Infrastructure remains a key enabler of #hydrogen, transporting it from where it can be produced at more competitive prices, like the Iberian peninsula, to where the hydrogen demand centres are located, such as Germany. Spain is a key country in this, pushing the #energytransition in the European context. #ElHidrógenoEsAhora #HydrogenIsNow Gobierno de España | CINEA - European Climate, Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency | European Commission | ENNOH | Moeve | Accelera by Cummins | BASF | thyssenkrupp Uhde | Sedigas - Asociación Española del Gas

The European Commission unveiled its #CompetitivenessCompass, setting out a roadmap for Europe's economic and industrial future across different sectors. #Hydrogen plays a critical role in this vision, with clear commitments to scaling up #infrastructure, supporting demand, and ensuring #Europe's leadership in #cleantech. 💧Key takeaways for #hydrogen: ➡️ #Investment in infrastructure: the EU commits to accelerating investment in electricity, hydrogen, and CO₂ transport networks, as well as storage systems. ➡️ Lead markets & demand-side policies: the #HydrogenBank’s Auction-as-a-Service model is highlighted as a tool to support early movers and stimulate demand for #lowcarbonhydrogen. ➡️ Targeted, non-discriminatory support: the #CleanIndustrialDeal will explore simplified and well-targeted state aid to drive industrial #decarbonisation, including #H2 production. ➡️ De-risking #cleanfuel production & distribution: the #AffordableEnergyActionPlan aims to reduce price volatility and improve access to low-cost energy, which is key for hydrogen #competitiveness. ➡️ Supporting clean tech & electrolysers: the strategy aims to protect and promote clean technologies, ensuring Europe remains a leader in #electrolyser manufacturing and other key #netzero industries. ➡️ Strengthening supply chains: through Clean Trade & Investment Partnerships, the EU seeks to secure access to critical #rawmaterials, #cleanenergy, and hydrogen technology from global partners. 🛑 High expectations remain: the Competitiveness Compass sets the right direction, but action is crucial. The EU must swiftly implement concrete measures that ensure #cleanhydrogen scales up at the speed needed to meet decarbonisation goals. With rising global competition, Europe cannot afford delays or uncertainty in investment conditions. 📢 What’s Next? Concrete proposals announced in the communication are set to drive the competitiveness of the European clean #hydrogeneconomy. This includes upcoming proposals on #stateaid, specific action plans for steel and the chemical industry, and the upcoming Clean Industrial Deal. Today, our Chief Policy and Market Officer, Daniel Fraile, joined a workshop organised by the Florence School of Regulation (FSR) to discuss the development of a target model for #hydrogen. This initiative, inspired by the approach taken after the adoption of the first Gas Market Package, aims to guide the evolution of the #hydrogenmarket and the related infrastructure requirements in Europe by supporting EU Agency for the Cooperation of Energy Regulators (ACER) and the development of hydrogen network codes. During the workshop, we shared insights from our last market outlook report (click here to read it: https://lnkd.in/eP_kQ9hf), focusing on how we envision the hydrogen market’s development: ➡️ The ambitious targets set by the EU #HydrogenStrategy and many national energy and climate plans (NECPs) are unlikely to be met as things stand. ➡️ While some Member States may achieve their hydrogen-related NECP/RED3 targets, the EU as a whole will fall short without sufficient cross-border infrastructure. National efforts in strategy, modeling, planning, and implementing hydrogen #transport, #storage, and import #infrastructure are urgently needed. ➡️ The potential #flexibility offered by P2X in a renewable-dominated #energysystem is often disconnected from the necessary hydrogen infrastructure investments in storage and pipelines. ➡️ Simplifying the production framework, transposing legislation at the national level, and supporting offtakers to de-risk long-term #investments are crucial to unlocking #cleanhydrogen supply and achieving EU targets. ➡️ #EUfunding must evolve to become fit for purpose, and Member States should step up with national funding initiatives, including anticipatory investments in infrastructure.
