Nothing big gets solved by one person. To take on cancer, it takes all of us. It takes a society. 💛

About us

What does it take to take on cancer? It takes all of us. We all know the saying ‘It takes a village.’ But to take on cancer, it takes more than a village. We believe it takes a society. It takes a community – of patients, caregivers, healthcare providers, researchers, advocates, donors, supporters and volunteers – rallying together around a shared cause. Profound impact is possible when we combine our actions with the actions of others. Our goal at the Canadian Cancer Society is to inspire people of all ages, from all backgrounds and all parts of the country to come together to take on cancer’s biggest issues. Nothing big gets solved by one person. To take on cancer, it takes all of us. It takes a society. 💛

Some days at the office truly stand out. 🤩🤩🤩 A big thank you to Kelly MacNaull for making it all happen, and to the NHL and NHLPA. Witnessing the joy on the faces of volunteers and residents at the Montreal Lodge as they experienced the Stanley Cup was a powerful reminder of the heart of CCS’s mission. It reinforces why we are dedicated to our work at the Canadian Cancer Society.

Metastatic breast cancer is breast cancer that has spread to other parts of the body. Cancer that has spread at the time of diagnosis is stage 4 breast cancer. Metastatic breast cancer can also mean cancer that has come back (recurred) after it has been treated. If you’ve been diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer, your healthcare team will suggest treatments based on your needs and work with you to develop a treatment plan. To learn more about which treatment option is suited for you, visit this link today: https://lnkd.in/eXWxAP6d #MetastaticBreastCancerAwarenessDay #BreastCancerAwarenessMonth

Canadian Cancer Society-funded researcher Dr April Khademi, PhD, PEng is using #AI to help doctors make more accurate and faster #cancer diagnoses, improving patient care. “Humans can make mistakes,” says Dr Khademi, a biomedical engineer at the Toronto Metropolitan University. “But AI tools can help us to be more accurate and consistent.” Currently, cancer is diagnosed by a pathologist, a specialized doctor who analyzes tissue samples to identify cancer presence and type. This poses a challenge because different pathologists may interpret the same sample differently. This is because they use qualitative descriptors such as colour and shape to make their assessment. Even when using size as an indicator, there can be variations on where measurements are taken. And with a shortage of pathologists, this method of diagnosing cancer and determining treatment can lead to delays in diagnosis and care. The AI tool created by Dr Khademi’s team will help pathologists make more consistent and reliable breast cancer diagnoses. Visit the link below to read more about her research. https://lnkd.in/g3vBbC5Y #BreastCancerAwarenessMonth
