From Canada’s Boreal to Colombia’s Amazon, forests are the lungs of the planet — nurturing biodiversity, absorbing carbon, and sustaining life as we know it. With Canopy at COP16 Colombia, we carry with us a message: Indigenous Peoples, as the guardians of over 80% of the world’s biodiversity, are critical to any meaningful climate action. Cleo Reece, from Fort McMurray First Nation, explains her connection to the Boreal Forest and why Indigenous leadership and stewardship of these vital ecosystems must be recognized, protected, and amplified. At this pivotal moment, let's champion solutions that honour and empower those who have safeguarded forests for generations. Together, we can build a sustainable, just future for people and the planet. #COP16 #ClimateAction #IndigenousRights #Biodiversity #Forests #Canopy

At COP16 Colombia, the call for strong forest protections is urgent. In a heartfelt video, Syahrul Fitra from Greenpeace Indonesia shares his deep connection to Sumatra’s forests and the heartbreak of witnessing their destruction. Brands must act — clearing deforestation from their supply chains and ensuring no new primary forest loss. Protecting forests means preserving communities, wildlife, and a sustainable future. We need bold commitments at COP16. Together, we can champion forest protection. #COP16 #COP16CBD #KMGBF #LeuserEcosystem #Forests #Biodiversity #Canopy

We are excited to announce our strategic partnership with Birla Cellulose, a global leader in man-made cellulosic fibers. This collaboration represents a significant milestone in our mission to scale Circ®'s textile recycling innovation, building a robust, scalable infrastructure that enhances access to next generation materials and drives rapid adoption.   Birla Cellulose will purchase a minimum of 5,000 metric tonnes of pulp per year for 5 years from our first-ever commercial-scale facility and will then convert it into high-quality lyocell staple fiber. This partnership is a testament to the quality of Circ's technology and products, as well as Birla's commitment to environmental stewardship.   As highlighted by Vogue Business, our alliance reflects one of the essential ingredients to making circularity a reality at scale: supplier involvement.    “This momentum is what will enable brands to make bolder commitments [and] suppliers to accelerate their transformation. With suppliers like Birla committing to the circular economy, it’s clear that we’re no longer talking about distant sustainability goals. We’re building the reality, right here, right now.” – Peter Majeranowski, Circ CEO. “This partnership reflects our commitment to environmental stewardship and represents a crucial step in advancing innovation within the textile industry,” says Aspi Patel, Chief Technology Officer at Grasim Industries Limited | Pulp & Fibre. “By integrating Circ’s cutting-edge recycling technology with our cellulosic fibres, we are enhancing the potential for a truly circular economy,” https://lnkd.in/enHQmi4w Maliha Shoaib #VogueBusiness #fashionindustry #textileindustry

The message is clear at COP16 Colombia: financing nature is essential to protect the planet. With heads of state meeting today, the urgency has never been greater. As Tamara Stark, Head of Impact at Canopy, emphasizes: "We need $78 billion over the next decade to reduce pressure on forests, conserve vital ecosystems, and fund regenerative pulp alternatives.” The UN has also called for $200 billion per year by 2030 to halt biodiversity loss and protect ecosystems on a global scale. Primary forests are one of the first defences against climate change to maintain a livable planet. We urge global leaders to prioritize funding that safeguards nature for a sustainable future. #FinanceForNature #ClimateAction #Biodiversity #KMGBF #COP16 #COP16Colombia #Canopy

Yesterday at COP16 Colombia, Canopy and the IUCN co-hosted an insightful panel: Financing A Systemic Solution for Forest and Biodiversity Conservation. The discussion explored financing systemic solutions to transform unsustainable paper, packaging, and viscose supply chains — key steps toward conserving critical forests and biodiversity. Key Takeaways: Material Substitution is Essential: Canopy Founder and Executive Director, Nicole Rycroft, highlighted that over 5 billion trees are cut down annually for these products. She noted, "Unless we reduce the demand for paper, packaging, and wood-based textiles, we risk undermining conservation efforts." Next Gen Materials Lead the Way: Sustainable alternatives like agricultural residues and recycled textiles can replace wood pulp, reducing pressure on primary forests globally. Urgent Need for Investment: Mobilizing USD 78 billion is crucial to scale these solutions. Nicole remarked, "We don’t need to reinvent the wheel; existing investment vehicles can support this transition." Collective Action Required: Chetan Kumar from IUCN stated, "Business as usual will not do." Global collaboration is key to scaling Next Gen solutions. We’re inspired and more committed than ever to drive systemic change. Together, we can make sustainable circular material sourcing the new norm, and keep vital forests standing for a healthy planet. #Sustainability #COP16 #GBF #KMGBF #NextGenSolutions #ForestConservation #Biodiversity #CircularEconomy #Canopy
