CatIQ and PERILS AG have recently disclosed their fourth industry loss estimate for the Calgary hailstorm of August 2024. In their fourth loss report, provided in the form of an industry loss footprint at high-res CRESTA zone resolution, CatIQ estimates that the event has cost the insurance industry a total of CAD 3.25 billion. This reflects an increase from the third report, issued three months post-event. CatIQ's loss estimates cover the property and motor line of business and are based on loss data collected from affected insurance companies which are subsequently grossed-up to 100% market. This compares to the figure of CAD 998 million issued in the third loss report 3 months after the event. CatIQ has disclosed its final industry loss estimate for #Hurricane Fiona, which made landfall in Atlantic Canada as a post-tropical cyclone in September 2022. As of the two year survey of affected insurers, CatIQ estimates that the event generated approx. CAD 860M in #insured losses. More information, included detailed loss information, is available to subscribers via the CatIQ platform.
