"After surfing for the first time, I felt reintroduced to ever-changing blueness of the ocean. Several trips to Japan opened more doors with its spiritual link to the colour blue and history of the minimal. Sitting in the ocean, waiting for waves, I started to think more and more of the blueness of blue...I humbly give thanks to the ocean. The wave is forever, keep the blue forever. One Ocean." - Nigel Scott from the book "Conversations With Blue" "Conversations in Blue" by Nigel Scott is on view now until January 2024. 🔗 Visit to learn more: https://buff.ly/3Rx50NA ▪️ Photo ID #1-7: "Conversations in Blue" installation photos at Corkin Gallery #Exhibition #Exhibit #OnView #Art #ContemporaryArt #Gallery #ArtGallery #Painting #Artist #Artwork #Photography #TorontoArt #TorontoArtist #CanadianArt #ArtinCanada #ArtCollector #ArtforSale #ModernArt #OilPainting #AcrylicPainting #Oil #Acrylic #Abstract #Blue

Nigel Scott, "Conversations in Blue", opens on November 15. Join us for the opening reception at Corkin Gallery from 5-8PM. Reservations are encouraged. 🔗 RSVP at link here: https://buff.ly/3smE0qq NIGEL SCOTT | "Conversations in Blue" "Conversations in Blue" continues my love affair with the colour blue that started with making photographic blueprints or cyanotypes, later surfing and ocean life brought me even closer. After painting a large wall in blue and dark blue for one of my shows. I started using blue directly on some photographs, this led to expanding my painting on to large photographs and then canvases. The writing on the canvases, was a way of opening a dialogue into these pieces, and the oceans fragility, the horizon is infinite and a reminder of being a connector to us all a sort of unification, the unification of blues. ▪️ Photo ID #1: Nigel Scott, "And there was blue", 2022 Phot ID #2: Nigel Scott, "And there was blue", 2022, detail Photo ID #3: Nigel Scott, "And there was blue", 2022, detail #Exhibition #Exhibit #OnView #Art #ContemporaryArt #Gallery #ArtGallery #Painting #Artist #Artwork #Photography #TorontoArt #TorontoArtist #CanadianArt #ArtinCanada #ArtCollector #ArtforSale #ModernArt #OilPainting #AcrylicPainting #Oil #Acrylic #Abstract #Blue

Miles Gertler, "Typical Oasis", opens on November 15. Join us for the opening reception at Corkin Gallery from 5-8PM. Reservations are encouraged. 🔗 RSVP at link here: https://buff.ly/46fPTMR MILES GERTLER | "Typical Oasis" “Typical Oasis” develops an interest in familiar artifacts and cultural aesthetics born of a dual concern for hazard and pleasure. The body of work presents images and cardboard relics that challenge the distance between those two evidently contradictory poles of animation. The exhibition takes its name from a caption in the 1993 American military Field Manual No 90-3 Desert Operations. In its many illustrations the guide demonstrates a frontierist anxiety for territorial venture in picturesque image-making that softens a preoccupation with risk through romantic composition. Figure 1-13, Typical Oasis, depicts the provision of momentary hospitality in an otherwise hostile landscape. "Typical Oasis" tests various means by which similar allusions might take place in printed image and cardboard sculpture with a focus on "typical" objects and daily life. ▪️ Photo ID #1: Miles Gertler, "I’m Sat (Chair Three)", 2023 Phot ID #2: Miles Gertler, "I’m Sat (Chair Three)", 2023, detail Photo ID #3: Miles Gertler, "I’m Sat (Chair Three)", 2023, detail #Exhibition #Exhibit #OnView #Art #ContemporaryArt #Gallery #ArtGallery #Painting #Artist #Artwork #Photography #TorontoArt #TorontoArtist #CanadianArt #ArtinCanada #ArtCollector #ArtforSale #ModernArt #Sculpture

Corkin Gallery is pleased to announce the representation of David Stewart. Stewart's paintings are inspired by photographs of his suburban hometown of Port Coquitlam. He is interested in how romantic notions of nature that correspond with popular modernist Canadian painters often fall apart in a contemporary context. Born in Saskatoon and raised in Port Coquitlam, B.C., David Stewart has completed a BFA at Emily Carr University and an MFA at Concordia University. He has shown his work in Vancouver’s South Main Gallery (2018), as well as in Fresh Paint, New Perspectives at Galerie Art Mûr (2020), and Domestic at Cache Gallery (2022). He is a 2023 recipient of the UK based Jackson’s Painting Prize (Best Landscape) and two Elizabeth Greenshields grants.
