    Decolonizing business

Calling all Indigenous activators with Coralus! Join us on Friday Nov 22nd at 9am PT/12pm ET for our next Indigenous Entrepreneurs circle! These monthly circles are designed to build community and relationship with other Indigenous women/non-binary entrepreneurs. Come as you are. ✨ ✨ ✨ Decolonizing Money Mindset: Our modern-day economic system is deeply rooted in colonial values, and yet it's something that everyone needs in order to survive. The dichotomy of participating in an extractive system holds many layers that can conflict with our individual values.    In this circle, you will explore ways to decolonize your relationship with money and redefine what wealth means to you. Join us! https://lnkd.in/gXeinEyz ✨ ✨ ✨ A bit about our guest speaker: Ariana Fotinakis (she/her) is a woman of mixed ancestry, with Anishinaabe and Greek roots. A daughter of a Sixties Scoop survivor, Ariana is proud to be reclaiming her roots. As a trauma-informed coach and breathwork facilitator, Ariana brings a grounded, gentle, and compassionate approach that supports her clients in their healing and decolonial journeys. Since 2013 she has supported 100s of clients across the globe with transformational change. Ariana is also the co-founder of Decolonize and Rize - combing reconciliation and well-being services together. Ariana understands the need to meet her clients where they’re at and believes everyone has the resources they need within to make positive changes in their lives and communities. ✨ ✨ ✨ Can't make it on Nov 22? Here is what we have coming up (all circles are hosted online and are 60mins)! 🌿Nov 22 - Decolonizing Money (Ariana Fotinakis) 🌿Dec 13 - Winter solstice (Vanessa Lesperance, MA, GDBA) 🌿Jan 17 - Personal group growth/coaching session with MJ Register on Coralus events page: https://lnkd.in/gXeinEyz #Coralus #IndigenousEntreprenuers #IndigenousWomenEntreprenuers #IndigenousBusiness

We, like so many others, want to take a moment to acknowledge the life and legacy of Justice Murray Sinclair. His leadership in advancing Canada towards reconciliation is nothing short of remarkable. To honour his work, his memory and his legacy we invite you to revisit TRC's Calls to Action #92 -- calling on the business community to take collective action to start correcting historical wrongs. Much of our work is based on TRC #92 and we're grateful for the work of Justice Sinclair for paving the way for us to do our work, including so many of our peers. May we all aspire to become the type of ancestor that Murray Sinclair has become. Access the TRC's Calls to Action (including #92) here: https://lnkd.in/gc8FfN5 #Reconciliation #IndigenousLeadership

One of our co-founders Ariana Fotinakis took to the stage at STOKED on so-called Salt Spring Island this past weekend to share our talk on Decolonizing Business. We usually present this session to larger organizations, with hundreds if not thousands of team members. The audience at STOKED was quite a different demographic, made mostly of small businesses with less than 10 team members. But oftentimes, it's amongst these small organizations where shifts into a more decolonized, relational approach can happen more quickly. We're excited to see how the seeds that were planted this weekend begin to grow and take shape.

True healing doesn’t happen in isolation—it happens in community. When we come together, share our stories, and listen with empathy, we create the conditions for collective healing. Healing is an act of communion, where our interconnectedness becomes a source of strength, support, and transformation. We ALL have work to do when it comes to healing from the effects of colonialism. Different groups have been impacted in different ways and to varying degrees, but the reality is that our current systems are not generative—they aren’t built to sustain life in a healthy, equitable way. At Decolonize and Rize, we believe in the power of community to foster growth and healing. By creating spaces where voices are heard and respected, we can heal not only as individuals but as a collective, moving toward a future of equity and justice. #CollectiveHealing #Decolonization #TruthAndReconciliation #HealingFromColonialism #CommunityCare #DecolonizeAndRize

Today is the National Day of Action for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, and 2Spirit (MMIWG2S) relatives. Despite only making up 4.3% of so-called Canada's female population, Indigenous women make up 16% of all female homicide victims and 11% of missing women. In 2019, the National Inquiry into MMIWG2S released 231 Calls for Justice. These Calls for Justice address ways to change our systemic and societal values that allow for the continued upholding of colonial violence. As of June 2023, only two of those Calls for Justice were completed. 45.9% remain in progress, and 53.2% have not been started. Today we honour our stolen sisters and relatives. We remember the stories and spirits of those who have been silenced. We call on our communities, allies, and co-conspirators to ensure this harrowing trend does not continue. #MMIWG2S #NoMoreStolenSisters

Monday September 30th is Orange Shirt Day or what is now known as National Day for Truth and Reconciliation -- which has become a federal holiday. The irony though, although this day is now considered a stat holiday it is often up to Indigenous folks to create content, share learning resources or host different events on this day -- it’s a day off for many folks but Indigenous peoples end up working to make this day momentous. Feeling inspired by Denise Halfyard (founder of The Frog Radio and organizer for the annual Tears to Hope run/walk) her recent post said "I'm so tired" along with an orange shirt. So many of our Indigenous kin are tired. We show up. We do the work. We're in the work. We live the work. This is why we've opted for another approach. We know many of you have been listening and learning. This is your chance to share what you know. What Indigenous businesses do you love supporting? What Indigenous social media accounts do you follow? What facts about the Indian Act or colonialism do you know to be true? This Orange Shirt Day we invite you to show up for the Indigenous influencers, business owners, creators, authors, communities and let us know what you've learned and witnessed from us. What truths do you know and how are you applying that to reconciliACTION? Comment below. Tag your non-Indigenous friends/colleagues to do the same. Instead of asking us to create and do the heavy lifting today, we ask you to lighten our loads -- this is reciprocity. This is relationship building. This is reconciliation. 🧡 🧡 🧡 🧡 🧡 🧡 🧡 🧡 #OrangeShirtDay #NationalDayforTruthandReconciliation #RestisResistance #DecolonizeBusiness #Reconciliation
