Career services offer the connection between schooling and activities after graduation. They are particularly valuable for students from marginalized backgrounds, who may not have the networks, experience in the field, or family members or friends who can offer advice in navigating the world of work. To supplement admissions, faculty, and career services, many schools have student clubs, student life, and even the sustainability department, all of which can foster a sense of community and belonging in the field of sustainability at the college or university level. Faculty are the academic departments at a university, made up of professors or instructors who are experts in specific subjects, such as sustainability. Professors and instructors often conduct their own research, supervise graduate or Ph.D. students, and teach classes, providing learning opportunities for students. The report further explores expanding the syllabi beyond Western authors and ways of knowing, immersing students in diverse perspectives, and linking course content to students’ lives as examples of how faculty approaches are shifting. Other solutions include creating safe spaces and accessible classrooms, and changing graduation requirements such as mandatory internships, to reduce inequity. Admissions departments at universities are the entry point to higher education. They attract and assess students for enrollment in the university or college, by providing information and determining eligibility. They also provide early exposure into campus culture and provide details on specific programs. Some school admissions are focused on cultivating relationships with students before university/college, adjusting admissions requirements, reducing financial barriers, and creating special programs to meet the needs of diverse students.
