We're excited to start work on the design and modernization of the Halifax Forum with ABCP architecture. The Forum means so much to the Halifax community— it's been at the heart of this city's history, events, and daily life for generations, and as the largest locally owned architecture firm in the province, this project feels especially meaningful to us. We look forward to working with Pomerleau and the Halifax Regional Municipality to bring new life to this important space while honouring everything that makes it special.

Cunard Street Live / Work / Grow is a testament to the potential of mass timber in Atlantic Canada. As both architect and client, we embraced the challenge of designing a five-storey, mixed-use building, integrating office space with residential units. The project navigated site constraints, pandemic disruptions, and a steep learning curve with mass timber construction. The result? A light-filled, sustainable workplace that fosters community—complete with a rooftop garden and shared spaces. https://lnkd.in/gHzykK3F

This article highlights the deep-rooted gender disparities in architecture, with women accounting for only 37.9% of architects in Canada. Addressing these inequities requires collective action and systemic change across the profession. We recognize our role in fostering an environment where women are represented, valued, and empowered. With 12 women among our 20 architectural professionals—including at the partnership/director level—we strive to create meaningful change through policies like equitable parental leave and practices that prioritize inclusion. Championing women in leadership and reshaping workplace norms are essential steps toward building a profession that reflects the diversity of the world we design for. #WomenInArchitecture #EquityInDesign #CollectiveFuture #Leadership https://lnkd.in/eR6jB8Gs

Halifax Central Library has achieved the Rick Hansen Foundation Accessibility Certified Gold—Canada’s highest accessibility standard for the built environment—with an impressive 84% rating and one of only two libraries in Canada with this distinction. “Accessibility is not a project. It’s a life-long commitment that needs a strong foundation and willingness to listen.” – Halifax Public Libraries. Over a decade later, our design of the Central Library with Danish partners, SHL, is a testament to our firms' commitment to inclusivity. Libraries are vital community spaces, offering access to knowledge, technology, and resources that foster connection and participation. Halifax Central Library's accessible features, from assistive workstations and tactile signage to barrier-free spaces and adaptive reading technology, deliver on its promise to be a place for everyone.

NSCC has completed the first two on-campus housing projects, featuring a new residence at the Pictou campus designed by FBM. These residences accommodate 50 and 100 students, respectively, with another 200-student residence set to open at the Ivany campus in Dartmouth in September 2025, also designed by FBM. These new accommodations will help alleviate the housing shortage, provide safe and inclusive housing for students, as well as enliven, enrich, and animate the vitality of campus life.
