The Hamilton Shelter Support Project is now open! 🏘️ The City Of Hamilton, in collaboration with Dillon and Good Shepard, proudly announced the opening of the Hamilton Shelter Support Project. This initiative provides 80 temporary outdoor shelter units for residents, prioritizing couples, pet owners and individuals with complex needs. The site is operated 24/7 by the Good Shepherd, a local organization that will also provide social services to the residents. Thanks to the dedicated efforts of our team (including Rankin Construction Inc.), the first residents moved in just 85 days after the initial site visit! ♻️ Across Ontario and Canada, the rise in medium and high-density multi-residential buildings is reshaping our urban landscapes. But with this growth comes the challenge of designing effective waste collection systems for garbage, recycling, and organics. Dillon Consulting Limited, commissioned by the Continuous Improvement Fund, led a 2024 study to tackle these challenges head-on. Their research highlighted the urgent need for standardized, comprehensive guidelines to enhance waste diversion in high-density residential areas. Legislative amendments, policy enhancements, and detailed municipal guidelines are crucial for improving waste diversion rates and fostering sustainable urban communities. When convenience is prioritized, recycling and waste diversion performance can soar.
