🚨 FHCP Statement on Rail Stoppage: Urgent Action Needed The rail stoppage that began today is causing significant disruptions across Canada, impacting the availability of essential goods and manufacturing processes and risking Canada's economy and reputation as a reliable trading partner. Key points from our latest statement: ➡ The stoppage threatens the timely delivery and quality of food, health, and consumer products, leaving Canada's rural and coastal regions particularly vulnerable. ➡ Input ingredients, imported through major ports and distributed via rail, run the risk of being affected if the stoppage is prolonged, impacting manufacturing capabilities. ➡ FHCP members have implemented short-term measures like pre-arranged truck transport, but these solutions are limited and temporary. My colleague, Senator Rob Black, and I sent this letter to cabinet ministers yesterday, stressing they must act swiftly and effectively to avoid the looming rail strike. This strike, like all rail interruptions, will impact every facet of the Canadian economy and will be the 9th avoidable interruption in 6 years. We cannot let our economy be held hostage again.
