Finally sitting down to reflect on this year's exceptional (and Flashfood's first) #NYCClimateWeek. We were so honored to co-host a Food Tank event alongside mission allies Divert, ReFED and Apeel, and share the stage with so many brilliant and passionate people and organizations solving some of the world's biggest climate and social challenges. It's not just the ideas and voices brought to the stage, but what the collective attention signals to investors, governments, and others who hold positions of power and influence. It is an honor and a thrill to gather with folks working to solve the crises we think about every day. Among so many wonderful sessions, our CEO Nicholas Bertram took the stage for a conversation on food access and affordability, alongside Erika Thiem from Feeding America, Julia DeSantis from The Farmlink Project, Brandon Lombardi from Sprouts Farmers Market, and moderated by Sweta Chakraborty, PhD. Thank you to our fellow panelists for engaging in open discussion about not just our collective achievements, but the work yet to come. Collective action is how we move forward. 📸 Ryan Rose Photography

We are thrilled to share that Jordan Schenck has been appointed President and Chief Operating Officer of Flashfood. Jordan joined us in January 2023 to lead our marketing team and has served as Chief Customer Officer for the last 9 months. A quote from our CEO Nicholas Bertram: “Jordan has been a driving force in our transformation, and has cultivated a high level of rigor and performance on her teams, something I am eager to cascade to the rest of the organization. A mission as important as ours deserves remarkable leaders, and Jordan has proven such a person. I am very excited to see what her teams accomplish together.” Congratulations Jordan! Excellent initiative by our partner Giant Eagle, Inc. to lower the cost of produce for their communities. This move is estimated to save Giant Eagle shoppers $25 million annually on fruits and vegetables 🥕 🍅 🍌 🥬 According to Partnership for a Healthier America, fewer than 1 in 10 people in the US eat the recommended amount of fruit and vegetables. This is in part due to the high cost of fresh produce, which has drastically outpaced the cost increase of other foods (USDA). Wonderful work Giant Eagle! https://lnkd.in/eh4nzRw5

Excellent report out from The Cool Down, showing a real interest from consumers in reducing food waste at home. Not just for sustainability purposes, but to save money. Highly recommend reading the full report, below ⬇ Congrats to the team for putting together this great body of research!
🚨💡 Big post alert: There’s a major transformation happening across the nation. Mainstream America is shifting 🍳, 🧼, 💅, and even 🌻 habits at home. We’re seeing this transformation firsthand through The Cool Down's editorial data, our reporting with the biggest brands nationwide, and our proprietary polls, surveys, and pulsing of our 35M+ monthly audience. And what’s fascinating is that this isn’t primarily driven by environmental concerns (even though homes directly account for ~ 20% of US carbon emissions). **These are decisions driven primarily by saving money and living healthier.** We spent the summer synthesizing all the ways this shift is popping up — from how we cook and clean to how we furnish our homes and garden around them — and we’re delighted to give you a first look at this comprehensive (and free) report. Introducing … 👇 ⚡ The Future of Our Homes ⚡ https://lnkd.in/ecrJ62Pm Just a few of the trends we’re seeing: 🔥 80% of consumers are open to making their kitchen habits more sustainable. 🛀 People are focused on keeping toxins off their bodies and out of their bathrooms. 🛋 Lots of people are redecorating — and they want to do it with "durable" recyclable materials, not fast furniture. 🌻 Our community loves to garden, like a lot: Gardening content pulled in over 17 million page views for articles with just the word "tomato" in them, partly due to the fact that 90% of our audience planned to garden this summer. Yard and garden topics are a great funnel into climate action. And there’s plenty more insights for marketers, sustainability leaders, clean energy providers, and anyone who loves a good white paper to sink their teeth into. ➡ Discover how to best serve shoppers with this evolving mindset with the full report: https://lnkd.in/ecrJ62Pm Thanks to the people and brands featured for helping us create a cooler, cleaner future: Misfits Market, Too Good To Go, Danone, Walmart, Procter & Gamble, Grove Collaborative, Branch Basics, The Home Depot, Yardzen, Flashfood, IKEA, Room & Board, EnergySage, Rewiring America, and many more. And a huge thanks to Anna Robertson, Charlotte Salley, Ryan Alberti, Benjamin Stern, Catherine Oshiro, and the whole The Cool Down team for putting this comprehensive report together. #climate #insights #climatesolutions #home #future

We got to be part of a special workshop this Saturday at the RIVER FUND with the team at Kids Worldwide. They host monthly youth educational workshops at the center, and this past weekend we got to host one with Christina (Tina) McGeough from the Stop & Shop Nutrition Team. Tina led the workshop on healthy eating with a cultural lens and and how to effectively shop for healthy groceries. The kids made watermelon pizzas and drew all the foods they love! We are so thankful to Christina for lending her expertise, Stop & Shop for their donation of groceries for all the attendees to take home, Robbie K. Stuart and Jeavonna Coble for allowing us to join in on the special community they've built with all the kids, and the RIVER FUND for their hospitality!
