Between 2004 and 2017, rates of metastatic breast cancer in individuals under 40 assigned female at birth increased by 3.5% annually. As a result, many young people experience temporarily induced menopause, either due to aggressive treatments or to reduce the risk of recurrence. With fertility and menstrual cycles being closely tied to the experience of womanhood for many, entering menopause earlier than expected may lead to a profound sense of loss of one’s youth. #Breastcancerawarenessday #breastcancerawarenessmonth #breastcancer #menopause

Mood is a powerful influencer of human decision making and this applies to HCPs. A happy mood leads to efficient and accurate decision-making, open mindedness & flexibility and a sense of helping & generosity. HCPs are extremely time-constrained, so they use mental shortcuts just like all of us. Mental shortcuts aren't inherently bad but sometimes they cause us to make decisions that aren't based on accurate information. We're asking... What if we could help HCPs be more aware of the mental shortcuts they use in their daily practice? How might that impact the their approach to decision-making? Mental shortcuts evolved as a necessary tool our brain uses to make decisions, especially when we are under time constraints and have many options to choose from. HCPs brains also default to mental shortcuts and they likely don't even know it! Click here to download the full HCP Decision Influencers paper #Brainhacks #MentalShortcuts #HCP

Only 20% of ovarian cancers are detected at an early stage. However, a quick diagnosis is crucial as it can lead to 94% of people living longer than 5 years after diagnosis. The trouble is symptoms of ovarian cancer can masquerade as many other conditions, and be easily brushed aside. Bloating Abdominal pain Frequent urination Feeling full quickly Unusual Fatigue Upset Stomach But are these symptoms recurring? Are treatments for other common conditions not helping? It’s time to become vigilant about this silent killer so we don’t end up with many more tragic stories. Spread the message to those you love who could be affected with ovarian cancer and don’t be afraid to speak up about your symptoms. #ovariancancerawareness

Doctors' treatment decisions are not immune to the constraints of time and excessive information. Under pressure, the human brain tends to rely on past experiences to predict future outcomes, believing that a series of successes is likely to continue. This mental shortcut is known as the Hot Hand Fallacy. Click here to download the full HCP Decision Influencers paper https://lnkd.in/gjcuPD6B #MentalShortcuts #BrainHacks #HCPMentalShortcuts

September is Prostate Cancer Awareness month and as I was doing some research on the evolution of the disease, I came across an article from 2013 stating that “1 in 2 men will develop prostate cancer in their lifetime!" I was stunned. How can there be a cancer that affects half of all men who live to 60 and we aren’t shouting about it? More recently, The Lancet noted in 2024 that “Prostate cancer cases [are] expected to double worldwide between 2020 and 2040.” Prostate cancer is clearly a CODE RED and we need to spread the word like wildfire to those people we care about – it’s time to get tested... again. https://lnkd.in/g9g2X7qJ #prostatecancerawarenessmonth #pcam
