Hard to believe that October is THIS WEEK! Less hard to believe is we have an amazing new featured GroundFloor mentor to introduce you to. Everyone, meet Patrik D., president & CEO at Tonbara Management Group To say Patrik likes sports is a massive understatement. He literally lives for sports. He studied sport management at Humber college and started his career at MLSE. Today, he runs Tonbara Magement Group, a forward-thinking marketing and advisory firm with a global presence in the sports and entertainment industries. Patrick’s philosophy is a simple one –  the clients are first and everything else is second. A philosophy that’s helped him sign and represent some of Canada’s top athletic talent. But what he’s most excited to talk about on GroundFloor is, “I'm eager to delve into discussions on partnerships, sponsorships, and the creative intricacies of client management.” Visit fromthegroundfloor.com today to book a call with Patrick or one of our other 50+ mentors.

As September has rolled on like a high-speed train, we can’t let the month blow by without bringing you a new featured GroundFloor mentor. Everyone, meet Marissa Mastenbroek. A freelance creative director, a multi-award winning art director and an amazing person on top of it all. To say Marissa is talented is like saying water is wet. She’s won all the awards and is one of the few art directors we know who won a Cannes Lion for writing a radio spot. Like so many of our mentors, Marissa really has done it all. She’s worked at some of the top agencies in Canada and done work for some of the biggest brands out there. But despite all that success, she’s also one of the most giving-of-her-time people around. Proven by her words, “I'm most excited about is letting younger people ask me things I never got to ask anyone when I was younger.” Visit fromthegroundfloor.com today to book a call with Marissa or one of our other 50+ mentors.

𝑵𝒐𝒕 𝒀𝒐𝒖𝒓 𝑨𝒗𝒆𝒓𝒂𝒈𝒆 𝑱𝒐 🦄 Career Strategist for PR & Comms Professionals ➡️ I help you land DREAM Jobs + Promotions | Fractional HR Consultant | Former Pilot ✈️

Dear Job Candidates, When you see a recruiter or hiring manager share on LinkedIn a role they are hiring for, don't just leave a comment saying "I'm interested". Here's what to do instead; 1. Go 𝙙𝙞𝙧𝙚𝙘𝙩𝙡𝙮 to the Company's website and research the company, the people and the role. 2. If you meet at least 60% of the qualifications, apply to the role 𝙙𝙞𝙧𝙚𝙘𝙩𝙡𝙮 on the Company's website. 3. Follow up 𝙙𝙞𝙧𝙚𝙘𝙩𝙡𝙮 with the person who posted the position, let them know you have applied, and share a compelling reason why they should consider you for the opportunity, the value you will add to that team and business. Far too often I see job seekers leaving a comment on the post, and this does nothing to position you as a strong candidate for the role. You need to go 𝙙𝙞𝙧𝙚𝙘𝙩𝙡𝙮 to the source and be more 𝙞𝙣𝙩𝙚𝙣𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣𝙖𝙡 with your job search strategies. +++++++++ 👋Hi, I’m Joanne 🎙️Career Strategist to Public Relations and Communications Professionals ✅ Follow for insider strategies to land your dream job in PR and Comms 🔔 Ring the bell at the top of my profile to get the latest in the job market and how to land interviews and job offers!

Connection starts here, but that connection can go a long way. Just ask Clara I., a senior art director who’s spoken with a couple of our GroundFloor mentors. “I also just wanted to say how much I appreciate you for creating Groundfloor. It’s been such a huge help for someone like me who really values getting advice, especially with a limited network and resources in a new place. Thanks again from the bottom of my heart!” We love every moment we get to connect with people around the industry (and world), but when we get messages of thanks like this, it puts an extra bit of spring in our step. Also, for those of you looking for some fresh, new talent with global experience, Clara may just be the talented art director you’re looking for. The Gen-Z Graphic Designer | Top Voice | Ex-Genpact | Elevating brands with next-gen design solutions | 1M+ Impressions

DEADLY MISTAKES to avoid in your PORTFOLIO Yesterday, I had the opportunity to review portfolios for some incredible creatives as part of a free session I offered to give back to the community. While the work was impressive, I noticed a few recurring issues across many portfolios: 🔸 Too Much Text: Keep it brief. Use bullet points or visuals to quickly communicate your message. 🔸 Weak First Impressions: Use engaging visuals to grab attention immediately—don’t let your work get lost on the page. 🔸 Lack of Storytelling: Explain your design choices clearly. Show the ‘why’ behind your work to connect with your audience. 🔸 Too Many Projects: Focus on your top 3-5 projects in a seperate portfolio. Quality over quantity wins every time. 🔸 No Mockups: Use high-quality mockups to make your designs pop and feel real. Fix these, and the chances of your portfolio getting short listed dramatically increase. #portfolioreview #portfolio #graphicdesigners #graphicdesigning #linkeddesigners #designers

Is it just us, or does September feel more like a new year than New Year’s Day? Well, happy New Year to all who celebrate in September. And what makes it even happier is our newest featured mentor. Everyone, meet Sean Froese, Director or Data & Analytics at Humi We’re incredibly lucky to have Sean on our mentor roster. He brings with him a wealth of experience from different industries, all of which recognize the value of data and the people who know what to do with it. And Sean definitely knows what to do with data (and no, it isn't just to analyse it). Sean made an amazing clarification when we first talked to him, “I promote a 'data-informed' rather than a 'data-driven' approach, highlighting the importance of merging analytical insights with intuitive judgment.” Sounds smart, doesn't it? But don't let the smarts fool you. Sean's a great person and an amazingly engaging mentor. So, if you'd like to chat to Sean about everything from data to coffee to data about coffee, he's all ears. Visit fromgroundfloor.com today to book a call with him and check out our other 40+ mentors. #data #analytics #numbers #mentor #mentorship #digital #strategy #connection #connections
