HLF is proud to offer a winning co-op experience that offers students endless opportunities for growth and meaningful connections!      We recently caught up with Morgan K., Engineering Co-op Student at our Lunenburg facility, to see how his placement is going. According to Jeremiah Hoffman, Director of Engineering Innovation, “Morgan is performing exceptionally well in his second internship term with us. He has become an invaluable member of the team, especially during the plant engineer's paternity leave.”  Let’s hear more from Morgan!        Were you a seafood fan before joining HLF? What’s your favourite product?  Despite not being a huge fan of seafood, I do really enjoy our Beer Battered Haddock. What’s been the best part of your placement with HLF so far?  The best part of working at HLF has been the people and the amount of support I am provided to enable the easier completion of my work. Have you worked on any special projects during your placement? If so, can you tell us more about them?  Yes, I have been working on the installation and start-up of a new pack line. I supported the second shift during the installation, and I’m currently working to support the project close out.   What’s your proudest accomplishment since starting at HLF?   I’m proud to be trusted with meaningful work. It’s been a great experience to work on the new pack line and have my input and decisions respected.  How has your placement impacted your perception of HLF and/or the seafood industry?  I never realized how big the industry, or the company really was. What advice would you give to other students considering an internship at HLF?  Ask tons of questions! There is a lot of experience within the company and the seafood industry and there are so many interesting things to learn. Morgan, your enthusiasm, dedication, and hard work are valued by the HLF team.  Keep shining and best of luck with the rest of your Co-op term!   #HighLinerFoods #EndlessOpportunities #ReimaginingSeafoofToNourishLife #coop #student #internship #HLF

Reimagining Seafood To Nourish Life fuels our culture to seek new, better, and more sustainable ways of operating that supports HLF’s commitment to the community and environment. As of July 2024, all our North American-manufactured purchased packaging has been validated by How2Recycle® (H2R), a non-profit organization offering the only comprehensive labeling system for packaging in Canada and the US that helps consumers recycle effectively and reduce landfill waste. Special thanks to our Packaging team for leading this project, and to all the cross-functional partners who supported its implementation!     #HighLinerFoods #ReimaginingSeafoodToNourishLife #ChangingTheWayWeSeeFood #sustainability #packaging #recycle #wastereduction

To celebrate the important contributions of our employees over our 125-year history, we’re shining the spotlight on their stories! After all, our people are the heart of our culture and success! Join us as we meet the people behind the fish.    Reg Brewer is a Superintendent at our Lunenburg Plant who recently celebrated his 25-year work anniversary. Let’s hear more from Reg!    What initially drew you to HLF, and how has your role evolved since joining?  I initially worked for a value-added seafood facility in Burin, NL, which became part of HLF in 2007. My family has a long history of working in the industry, so one could say it was in my blood to also start a career in seafood. I began as a temporary Quality Assurance (QA) Tech, quickly moving to full-time before I became QA Manager within a year. Over the next 20 years, my role continued to evolve, and I relocated from NL to our Lunenburg, NS facility in 2012. In 2021, I moved from QA to the production management side of the business, working to meet customer orders and efficiency targets.  Reflecting on your time here, what accomplishment are you most proud of?  That’s hard to say. There have been a lot of small wins over my 25-year career. Despite the difficult decision my wife and I made to leave ‘home’ for a new province with new coworkers, I quickly became a key part of the management team and I’m very proud of how my family adapted to life in Lunenburg. Both of my sons were active in local sports and did well in school, which helped us settle into the community.  My son Zach was even awarded one of the HLF scholarships in 2023. Safe to say we’ve made a home here.    Can you share a favourite memory or moment from your time at HLF?  Many memories were made while I had the opportunity to travel on behalf of the company, meeting new people in our network of coworkers, suppliers and customers.      How has HLF changed in your time with the company?  HLF has changed significantly, growing and becoming a much larger company. When I became part of the HLF family, each operation very much functioned independently. Now, save for a few local differences, we work more closely together as one team.     What do you think sets HLF apart from other companies?  I think HLF shows a lot of integrity through our commitment to environmental stewardship and our dedication to sustainability and philanthropy is remarkable. Also, the recent launch of HLF C.A.R.E.S, as well as our “Build a Better Me” wellness program shows that the company is really invested in the well-being of their employees.    Looking ahead, what are you most excited about for the future of HLF?  I’m excited to see HLF continue to focus on innovation, from developing new products and packaging technologies to incorporating new equipment technologies into our processing facilities.  #HighLinerFoods #HLF125 #ReimaginingSeafoodToNourishLife #ChangingTheWayWeSeeFood #anniversary #peoplefirst #culture

As we continue casting our nets to the future, we’re committed to offering students #endlessopportunities for growth and meaningful connections!       We recently caught up with Efe I., IT Co-op Student in our Halifax Office, to see how her placement is going. What’s been the best part of your placement with HLF so far?  The best part has definitely been working closely with my manager. Today we celebrate Emancipation Day in Canada, marking the 1834 enactment of the Slavery Abolition Act across the British Empire. Emancipation Day serves as a reminder of our collective journey toward equality and the ongoing efforts to address systemic racism. Understanding our history allows us to foster change and create space for essential conversations about the experiences of Black Canadians, both historically and today. HLF’s partnership with The Re-Seasoning Coalition reflects our commitment to fostering a culture where everyone feels a sense of belonging. Together, we’re striving to dismantle barriers, enhance inclusivity, and increase the representation of Black Canadians in the foodservice industry. #HighLinerFoods #ReimaginingSeafoodToNourishLife #ChangingTheWayWeSeeFood #Diversity #Inclusion #Culture #PeopleFirst

July 10, 2024, marked our annual Feed Nova Scotia & High Liner Foods Donation Match Day, where all donations made through the day were matched by HLF up to $17,500.   We are thrilled to share that a significant milestone was achieved as we rallied together to support Nova Scotians facing food insecurity. Along with HLF’s matching donation and the total funds raised on July 10th (nearly $160,000) we have officially surpassed $1M in financial support since our partnership began eight years ago!!! HLF has not only provided monetary donations over the years. Through countless food donations from our team, equaling over 290,000 kg of product or more than $2.3M worth of food, we've helped advance the community support provided by Feed Nova Scotia’s 140 food banks, shelters, and meal programs. “We are immensely proud to reach this significant milestone in our support of Feed Nova Scotia, " said Paul Jewer, President & CEO, High Liner Foods. "High Liner’s purpose of Reimagining Seafood to Nourish Life includes a commitment of giving back to the communities we live and work in – and has been part of our company culture since the very beginning. This achievement landing in our 125th anniversary year makes it even more special, adding one more reason to celebrate with our employees, communities, and partners at Feed Nova Scotia. We look forward to many more years of working together to support Nova Scotians experiencing food insecurity.” Thank you to all those that made a donation in this year's campaign and for your continued support of Feed Nova Scotia's important work. https://lnkd.in/emBDBT5 #HighLinerFoods #FeedNovaScotia #MatchDay #DoubleDonations #ReimaginingSeafoodToNourishLife #HLF125 #endfoodinsecurity #communitysupport #nourishingcommunities

HLF is proud to offer a winning co-op experience that fosters a sense of community, peer-to-peer learning, and develops a pipeline of talented individuals who share our vision for the future.  As we continue casting our nets to the future, we’re committed to offering students #endlessopportunities for growth and meaningful connections!   We recently caught up with Thomas G., Engineering Intern in our Newport News facility, to see how his placement is going. Let’s hear more from Thomas!    Were you seafood fan before joining HLF? What’s your favourite product?  Yes! I always try to eat healthy, so I’ll have some type of seafood at least 1-2 times a week. High Liner’s Crispy Breaded Shrimp and Pan-Sear Salmon are my favorites. What’s been the best part of your placement with HLF so far?  It’s hard to pick! I’ve had the chance to learn a lot of great things so far this summer. This includes learning about ammonia refrigeration, how it works, and its key role in food manufacturing. I’ve also had the opportunity to learn about the role of engineering behind many of the food processing stages, to shadow staff on the floor, and to work on several different AutoCAD projects, learning new functions and commands within the computer-aided design software. It's safe to say that I'll complete my placement with lots of valuable knowledge.  Have you worked on any special projects during your placement? If so, can you tell us more about them?  A special project I’ve worked on is updating and adjusting the master AutoCAD drawing plan for our Newport News facility. I modified, cleaned up, and implemented the HLF layer standards into that master drawing, ensuring each piece of equipment was correctly labeled. As a result, the Engineering team now has a high-quality, accurate AutoCAD drawing of the Newport News facility that they can refer to well into the future. How has your placement impacted your perception of HLF and/or the seafood industry?  I’m proud to work for a company that strives to prioritize sustainability, protect marine life, and uphold their responsibility to nourish communities. As an engineer it’s important to bring cost-effective and reliable technical solutions to deliver high quality products to consumers. Ensuring environmentally friendly practices while doing so is vital and something HLF does very well.  What advice would you give to other students considering an internship at HLF?  Make the most of your time with your coworkers and supervisors. I’ve been able to learn so much from people with decades of industry experience. It’s a privilege to work with so many brilliant people and learn practical things from them that I couldn’t learn in school. Make the most of it and don’t hesitate to ask about anything you’d like to know more about. Thomas, your enthusiasm, dedication, and hard work are valued by the HLF team.  Keep shining and best of luck with the rest of your Co-Op term!      #HighLinerFoods #Careers #Coop #Engineering
