In a new blog post in our Highwood Bulletin, President Thomas Fox and Director of R&D Jeff Rutherford weigh in on whether "reconciliation" is becoming a buzzword in methane emissions management, including pitfalls to avoid and how to get it right.
People love to say the word 'reconciliation'. Sadly, while it's easy to say the word and to write it into policy, it's much harder to understand what it means and how to implement it. As methane reconciliation becomes ingrained in industry practices, regulations, and sustainability disclosure requirements, clarity and specificity are crucial to ensuring that it serves its intended purpose without adding unnecessary noise to the conversation. By approaching reconciliation with rigor, transparency, consistency, and scalability, we can ensure that it serves as a powerful tool in enabling energy companies to achieve, prove, and take credit for real methane reductions. In our first month of delivering our on-demand methane courses with SAGA Wisdom, 191 lessons were completed by 26 users representing 15 companies. Wow! And we're just getting started. Methane management in O&G is complex - and rapidly evolving. A common struggle we hear is the inability to keep up, or the feeling that you're always one step behind the latest technology, policy, methodology, or model. To fill this gap, Highwood Emissions Management is investing heavily in methane training, in partnership with SAGA Wisdom. We are recording 8-10 courses in 2024, and the first two are now available. Developing and recording our Fundamentals of Methane Part 1 and Part 2 was a valuable experience, helping me structure and sort through the diverse facets and themes within the world of methane. These two courses, which you can read about in the Highwood Bulletin below, touch on many diverse aspects of methane emissions management for oil and gas, and are the "prerequisites" for the other more focused courses we will release later this year on #OGMP, #methane #technology, #reconciliation, voluntary initiatives, and US methane #regulations.
