On this National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, we pause to remember all the children that lost their lives and those who survived residential schools, along with their families and communities. HOOPP recognizes this important day each year by sharing learning resources and opportunities with our employees, closing our office and using the time to remember, reflect and learn, so we can better understand the harmful legacy of the residential school system in Canada. Let’s continue to have meaningful conversations and take steps together in the ongoing process of reconciliation.

Earlier this month, HOOPP hosted a virtual seminar titled 𝘕𝘢𝘷𝘪𝘨𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘋𝘪𝘨𝘪𝘵𝘢𝘭 𝘈𝘨𝘦: 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘐𝘮𝘱𝘢𝘤𝘵 𝘰𝘧 𝘚𝘰𝘤𝘪𝘢𝘭 𝘔𝘦𝘥𝘪𝘢 𝘰𝘯 𝘠𝘰𝘶𝘵𝘩 𝘔𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘢𝘭 𝘏𝘦𝘢𝘭𝘵𝘩, led by Dr. Zia Lakdawalla, a registered clinical psychologist. Designed to support employees who are parents and caregivers, in this session, Dr. Zia shared valuable insights on the effects of social media on youth mental health and provided practical strategies for fostering healthy technology habits at home. A big thank you to Dr. Zia and our Benefits team for organizing such an informative and educational event!

In recognition of National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, HOOPP employees had the opportunity to attend a virtual tour of the former Mohawk Institute Residential School. We thank the Woodland Cultural Centre for facilitating the tour for our employees for the third year in a row, helping us deepen our understanding of the profound impact residential schools have had on the Indigenous Peoples in Canada. We look forward to partnering again in the future.
