Human Space collaborated with BDP (Building Design Partnership Ltd)’s sustainability team to conduct extensive occupancy evaluations of BDP’s London studio to identify areas of improvement, analyzing operations and performance against a database of similar building benchmarks. The team surveyed and gathered feedback from staff members occupying the building, collecting data on their perceived productivity, and input on comfort, health and wellbeing, workspace and amenities. Using this data, BDP worked towards improving building performance and staff satisfaction, producing a summary report with 14 actionable recommendations to address areas for improvement. Human Space was selected as part of the BDP (Building Design Partnership Ltd) team by the Noida International Airport (NIA) to create a comprehensive set of inclusive urban development guidelines and a green campus concept landscape masterplan for the 1,334-hectare site. This 300-page manual details inclusive urban and architectural design guidelines to ensure a cohesive visual identity and high design quality across various districts. The completed standards will form a guiding toolkit for the concessionaires taken on board by Yamuna International Airport. #UrbanDesign #UrbanDevelopment #Masterplan #Architecture #Design #BuiltEnvironment #India

We’re thrilled to see that Accessibility Standards Canada has released a new draft standard on Accessible-Ready Housing, currently open for public review! Accessible-ready housing is designed for easy adaptation with minimal changes to its structure, electrical, or mechanical systems. This Standard outlines a framework for accessible-ready housing, easily adaptable with minimal alterations. It incorporates legal, technical, and research sources, and provides guidelines for several housing elements. The Standard also emphasizes "Design for Accessible-Ready" (DAR), which is an approach anticipating future accessibility needs, ensuring homes can be easily modified to meet emerging requirements. Take part in shaping a more inclusive Canada by reviewing the draft and sharing your feedback before January 31: https://lnkd.in/gcAiY6Cm Government of Canada #Accessibility #Inclusion #InclusiveDesign #AccessibilityMatters #AccessibleHousing #Canada

Today is #BellLetsTalk Day, amplifying the importance of supporting mental health across Canada. While taking action through everyday conversation is important, it is crucial that we also extend this effort to the built environment by creating inclusive spaces that enhance well-being and foster a sense of belonging for everyone. Human Space is proud to have had the privilege of working with Canada's largest mental health teaching hospital and leader in social change, CAMH, on their Phase 1C Redevelopment in Toronto. As an integrated member of the team in this public-private partnership development, we worked closely with the Stantec architectural team and PCL Construction to deliver on the accessibility requirements of the project. These healthy, inclusively designed spaces encourage recovery within a safe environment and usher in a new era of groundbreaking transformation in mental health care and research. Universal design is the design of an environment so that it might be accessed and used in the widest possible range of situations without the need for adaptation. Originating from the built environment, it emphasizes the end solution and aims to achieve a “one-size-fits-all” approach. The seven principles of universal design include: 🔶 Equitable use 🔶 Flexibility in use 🔶 Simple and intuitive use 🔶 Perceptible information 🔶 Tolerance for error 🔶 Low physical effort 🔶 Size and space for approach and use The eight goals of universal design include: 🔶 Body fit 🔶 Comfort 🔶 Awareness 🔶 Understanding 🔶 Wellness 🔶 Social integration 🔶 Personalization 🔶 Cultural appropriateness As the inclusive design practice of BDP (Building Design Partnership Ltd), Human Space provides guidance on implementing project-specific and innovative design strategies to create spaces for all that align with accessibility standards, and promote equity, wellbeing and participation in the built environment. Discover the difference accessible design can make for millions of Canadians in this new video from the Accelerating Accessibility Coalition! In the video, Luke Anderson, Neisha Mitchell, Kate Chung, and Doug Buck tour a typical home to provide a first-hand account of the challenges they face, followed by a tour of a home that has been designed intentionally to be more liveable and visitable. Once viewed, feedback is encouraged through the survey in the text below the video. As Canada rapidly builds new condominiums and purpose-built rentals, this video highlights what home builders are doing—and what more can be done—to make physical accessibility a greater priority for the growing and evolving needs of Canadian residents.
