As a child, the question, “What do you want to be when you grow up?”, always left me feeling inadequate, because that deep rooted conviction everyone seemed to have definitely skipped me. I had no epiphany about my profession and neither did I have a highly sentimental life changing story to steer me towards fighting for justice or saving lives. In my confusion, I chose banking. Bankers dressed nice, and wouldn’t it be a plus to work where money lives?! 🫤 ᴅᴏɴ’ᴛ ᴊᴜᴅɢᴇ ᴍᴇ. ᴏʀ, ᴊᴜᴅɢᴇ ᴍᴇ. ʟᴏʟ. ᴡʜᴀᴛᴇᴠᴇʀ! Over the years, I’ve realized that the pressure of choosing a career path is exactly that, pressure. Unlike those who know, at 3 years old, that they want to become doctors, there are those of us who are simply…clueless, and that’s okay. This one is for tׁׅhׁׅ֮ꫀׁׅܻ ᝯׁᥣׁׅ֪υׁׅꫀׁׅܻᥣׁׅ֪ꫀׁׅܻ꯱ׁׅ֒꯱ׁׅ֒! To the professional experiences you feel most passionate about, SAY YES, and watch them all act as a guiding light to the destination God had planned for you all along. This picture was taken in the era when I shot documentaries, interviews, and shorts, for my business, Dudunorth. Though, this is not something I do anymore, I reflect on those 5 years because many of what I do today stem from the lessons I learnt giving Dudunorth my very best. Tׁׅᨵׁׅ tׁׅhׁׅ֮ꫀׁׅܻ ᝯׁᥣׁׅ֪υׁׅꫀׁׅܻᥣׁׅ֪ꫀׁׅܻ꯱ׁׅ֒꯱ׁׅ֒ 1. Start with what you know and do your best with what you have. 2. Always be learning — If you find a trade interesting, invest in learning more about it. 3. Take chances with your career. Don’t make your current career path a life sentence. 4. It’s okay to work a job that pays the bills, but brings no passion. You can find/create passion in a side-gig till it can afford you the life of the dreaded job. 5. If you are to pick any profession randomly, make sure it will feed you well.
