On May 3rd, 2024, our MYAD Local Communications Officer and Head Delegate Purva Vyas presented an oral statement at the 57th Session of the Commission on Population and Development. 🇺🇳 She spoke on the failure of the CPD to pass 5 of the last 10 resolutions due to the contentious issue of sexual and reproductive health and rights. She argued to push for SRHR conversations where youth are meaningfully involved, and calls upon the CPD to address the continuous struggles that vulnerable populations face. She says, “It is ignorant to discuss the value of sexual and reproductive health and rights without speaking of the 690 000 menstruating women and adolescent girls in Gaza, who face limited access to menstrual hygiene supplies” Purva emphasized MYADs stance on pushing member states to remember the commitments made during the ICPD to actively work towards a future in which vulnerable populations live safe protective lived with adequate access to healthcare, education, and other rights as mandated in the program of action. We are so incredibly proud of Purva for her outstanding leadership in representing McGill Youth Advisory DelegationIRSAM Inc. - The International Relations Students' Association of McGill, and McGill University students at the United Nations! 💙

🌟 Highlighting MYAD's Side Event at CSocD62: Youth-Driven Tech for Social Good 📱 As part of our ongoing spring series, we're excited to share insights from MYAD's dynamic side event hosted at the 62nd session of the UN Commission for Social Development. Our esteemed panelists brought diverse expertise to the table: 1. 🌍 Spotlight on Youth Inclusion in the Digital Age: Insights from MYAD's Oral Statement at the UN Commission for Social Development 🌎 In our ongoing spring series, we're excited to shine a light on the recent participation of MYAD at the 62nd session of the UN Commission for Social Development. MYAD president, Esme Longley, delivered a powerful oral statement highlighting the critical importance of youth inclusion in a digital age. At the heart of the address was the urgent call for collaboration to address inequalities in digital access, combat mis- and disinformation, and ensure equitable access to the UN system, especially for youth facing socio-economic constraints. MYAD's three key recommendations to member states are as following: 1. Implement comprehensive digital education and vocational training, coupled with the equitable distribution of technology at all levels of education. 2. Address the dangers of digital misinformation and advocate for media literacy education to foster critical thinking within the digital age. 3. Tackle the disproportionate barriers faced by youth, particularly those in the global south, unrecognized territories, and conflict zones, by creating an environment where every young person can meaningfully contribute to global conversations. We emphasise that the opportunities presented by the digital age extend far beyond technological advancements. They must also serve to uplift and actively involve marginalized youth, thereby fostering a more inclusive and just global future. You can watch the full video of MYAD's oral statement at 02:05:00 in the following link: https://lnkd.in/eeAybJje Stay tuned as we continue to share more about our efforts to advocate for youth empowerment and social justice in the digital age! #YouthInclusion #DigitalAge #CSocD62 #SocialDevelopment #YouthEmpowerment #SocialJustice #SpringSeries

🌍 Reflecting on Our Spring Initiatives: Insights from the UN's Commission on Social Development 62 🌎 As we embark on our spring series to showcase the impactful work of the McGill Youth Advisory Delegation, we're thrilled to kick things off by sharing insights from our recent participation in the United Nation's 62nd Session of the Commission on Social Development (CSocD62). The team comprised of head delegates, Esme Longley, Judy Zeng, and Keith Baybayon as well as delegates, Malak Afifi, Jeanne Gonelle, Jessica Bakar, Lawrence Plastina, Claire Cheng, Nicole Kastanias, and Anirudh Ram-Mohanram. In February, members of MYAD had the extraordinary opportunity to participate in this pivotal event. The broad commission theme, "Fostering social development and social justice through social policies to accelerate progress on the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and to achieve the overarching goal of poverty eradication", provided a wide lens to advocate for youth inclusion in high-level forums. Our delegation engaged in fruitful discussions with offices of numerous permanent mission representatives, including those from Belgium, Denmark, Luxembourg, Germany, Canada, Mexico, Colombia, the Philippines, Portugal, Hungary, and Chile. Particularly, we were impressed by meetings we had with other youth delegates, like Lew Töpfer and Ilka Essig. It was encouraging to see a cross-cutting approach to youth in policy instead of the usual siloes of youth participation being relegated to certain areas or stages of the policy process. Throughout our meetings, we proudly presented the policies we've been diligently crafting over the past few months. Our focus ranged from empowering youth to combat mis- and disinformation to calling for vaccine equity to address current and future health crises. The exchange of ideas and insights with representatives from around the world was truly inspiring, and we're eager to see how our collaboration will enhance our collective efforts. This experience at the UN's Commission on Social Development exemplifies our commitment to driving positive change on both local and global scales. As we continue with our spring series, we're excited to delve deeper into the initiatives that embody our dedication to youth empowerment, education, and social development. Stay tuned as we share more about CSocD62 this spring! 🌷 #UN #YouthNGO #YouthEmpowerment #SocialDevelopment #Education #TechnologyForGood #McGillUniversity #IRSAMInc #GlobalImpact #SpringInitiatives
