Today, we celebrate United Nations Day, commemorating the anniversary of the UN Charter’s entry in 1945. This pivotal moment marked the official establishment of the United Nations, a global organization that champions peace, development, and human rights. With the ratification of the Charter by its members, including the five permanent members of the Security Council, the UN gained unparalleled legitimacy and power. For 79 years, it has served as a beacon of hope, striving to address pressing global issues and promote international cooperation. As we celebrate this day, we recognize the urgent need for nations to come together to fulfill the promise of unity and collaboration. I am thrilled to be attending the Summit of the Future at the United Nations Headquarter this weekend, alongside three of my incredible colleagues. As part of the McGill Youth Advisory Delegation, we will advocate for improved structural inclusion of youth voices in UN processes. We're excited to announce that four of our McGill Youth Advisory Delegation members—Ayisha Hilal, Esme Longley, Isabela Sullivan, and Jeanne Gonelle—will be representing us at the Summit of the Future at the United Nations! As youth delegates, they'll be engaging with global leaders, policymakers, and NGOs to discuss some of the most pressing challenges our world faces to ensure the voices of youth are heard in shaping the future of global governance!
