🇨🇦 Exploring Canada's potential in durable carbon removal. 🍁 It's Canada Day today!! As the country celebrates 157 years of formal creation, nearly 50 organizations are hard at work in leading Canada's CDR efforts. 🏔 While the government has taken crucial steps, be it by allocating upto $7.6 billion to scale CDR through the Investment Tax Credit or by including $135 million for its CDR procurement program in its 2024 federal budget, the country's diverse terrain and resources make it possible for CDR projects across methods build a strong platform to capture and remove CO2 at a massive scale. 📈 Canada is among the top countries in the world when it comes to CDR with only the US, UK and Germany ahead of it in terms of scale, while closely followed by Switzerland. 📊 From North America's largest biochar facility (Carbonity), to the continent's first commercial-scale ocean-based carbon removal facility (Equatic.tech, Deep Sky), and DAC projects across the country with companies such as Deep Sky, Skyrenu technologies, Climeworks, Carbon Engineering, Carbfix, and more. Equally important are the mCDR research initiatives and other important ocean climate works coming out of the maritime provinces of the East. It is truly exciting to see the scale at which CDR can take off in Canada. 👏 Let us take this moment to appreciate and support the vital work being done by all the teams: Aeon Blue, Airhive, Arca, BC Biocarbon, Bella Biochar Corporation, Carbon Alpha, CarbonCure Technologies, Carbon Engineering, CarbonRun, Carbon Streaming Corporation, Carbon Upcycling Technologies, CarbiCrete, CO280, Deep Sky, Echo Tech Carbon Corporation, Emergent Waste Solution, E-quester, Exterra Carbon Solutions, Gaia Refinery, GECA Environment, Ionada, Mangrove Systems, NULIFE GreenTech, Planetary, Skyrenu technologies, Solid Carbon, Svante, TerraFixing, Varme Energy, ZS2 Technologies. 🙌 A big shoutout to Carbon Removal Canada for leading on the policy front, and to B.C. Centre for Innovation and Clean Energy (CICE) and MaRS Discovery District for supporting the many companies on their way to removing millions of tonnes of carbon dioxide. 📌 We’ve recently launched a new feature that enables organizations to add CDR projects and facilities on the CDR Map. Learn more about this feature and add your project locations through the CDR.fyi Portal (link in the comments below).
