In a few weeks, we will celebrate Labour Day - a day meant to recognize the continuous efforts for worker rights across the country. Paid breaks, minimum wage, and sick leave are just some of the rights we now have, thanks to the work that has been done - and proves that these efforts create change. Using our collective voice, the sector has the ability to advocate and instill change in these structural barriers. Together, where do we see ourselves in collective advocacy and action? Today our team is celebrating Clary Chambers as she transitions from IONS' Engagement Lead to working full-time on her farm Ager Lane, where she and her wife are building a flower farm and event space that is pro-Black, pro-Queer, and committed to supporting folks like Clary who live with disability. We're so thankful to have had Clary's infectious energy and contributions during her time with IONS which strengthened our organizational commitment to accessibility and creating more inclusive spaces both internally and at events we host for the community. "I'm proud of the influence I've had over external and internal policies at IONS that continue to make the space welcoming, inclusive and accessible for both employees and folks in the Impact Sector. I look forward to staying in touch with all the folks I've met and worked with over the past 14 months and hope that you will join us on the farm for u-picks and future weddings, events and even retreats!" - Clary During growing season, visit Clary and Percy at their farm at Agerlane.com, and follow the journey on Instagram at zucchini.wives! In the farming off-season, you can find Clary through her accessibility coaching and consulting work at Sparkclarity.ca! Please join us in celebrating Clary and wishing her the best in this new adventure!🌻🌿

Did you know that supporting remote and hybrid work has both a positive impact on diverse staff members and on retention/ recruitment? 💻 Work from home options increases access and quality of life for neurodiverse, disabled, and equity-deserving communities. This flexibility provides more inclusivity and allows for people to do their best work. This inclusive practice helps organizations benefit in the recruitment process and in combatting burnout. As part of our Beyond Decent Work campaign, we're calling on organizations to consider more equitable workplace practices. What's possible in this sector? Learn more here: https://lnkd.in/e7sTXrPe

The thought of adding a benefits plan to your organization can be daunting. But it might be more in reach than you think, with reduced administrative burdens, lower costs, and the ability to support part time employees and organizations with as little as one employee. The Sector-Wide Employee Group Benefits plan that IONS, the Community Services Benefits Trust (CSBT), and NewGround Financial Inc. offer at more affordable rates caters specifically to the Community Impact Sector (and the plan IONS uses!). Check out this blog on the importance of health benefits in our sector, tips for implementation, and ways to advocate and care for yourself!

Meet Teri Brezner (she/her)! Our Director of Learning Networks 👋 Teri brings over 15 years of experience designing, facilitating and leading leadership, community, organizational and network development for hundreds of social change leaders in the Community Impact Sector. She uses decolonized, liberatory and somatic practices, design thinking, and emergent strategy to create inclusive, democratic spaces that support diverse leaders to transform themselves, their communities and the social impact sector. Teri is a first-generation Guyanese-Canadian. She called Washington, DC home for more than a decade before moving back to Canada to plant her roots in Bridgewater, NS. When she's not working on social change, she spends her free time getting outdoors, exploring the world through the eyes of a 4 year old, collecting books she will someday read, listening to podcasts about the future of work and exploring food, culture and community through travel. Looking to get in touch with Teri? Reach out here! https://ions.ca/contact/
