Sen̓áḵw is a significant project for the Squamish Nation, reclaiming ancestral land near #Kitsilano, #Vancouver. The name means “the place inside the head of False Creek.” This development features 11 residential towers, 6000 rental units, and community spaces, marking the largest First Nations development in Canadian history. A collaboration between Kasian, Revery, Westbank Projects, and the Squamish’s Nch’kay Development, Sen̓áḵw represents the Nation’s future, blending cultural respect with sustainability through its Net Zero Carbon design. Maple Ridge, east of #Vancouver, is a growing community with ambitious development goals, particularly through ERA—a seven-phase, master-planned residential project at the downtown core designed by Kasian Architecture Interior Design and Planning. Created by two local business partners, ERA is the area’s first large-scale mixed-use development, featuring condos, townhomes, rental suites, parks, and retail spaces. Phase one offers 143 market and 49 rental units focused on nature and a community-oriented lifestyle. Designs embrace Maple Ridge’s agricultural heritage, incorporating earthy tones, Corten steel accents, and barn-style roofs. Centered around a landscaped courtyard, every unit has outdoor space, and rooftop gardens add greenery. A central promenade connects the community, offering playgrounds, cafes, and, in future phases, a large public plaza with a performance stage. Surrey has long lacked a distinct downtown, but its municipal government, led by Mayor Dianne Watts, set out to change this through a visionary master plan. The Surrey City Hall, designed by Kasian Architecture Interior Design and Planning partnership with Moriyama Teshima Architects, anchors this transformation, creating a green, pedestrian-centric downtown in the once crime-ridden Whalley neighborhood. The innovative design stretched the new city centre between two anchors: City Hall to the north and Central City Mall to the south, creating an active pedestrian corridor. This approach spurred further development, including a new public library, residential buildings, and a university expansion. The design fostered collaboration with stakeholders, resulting in a dynamic civic space with a striking, cantilevered roof, a glass façade, and hidden underground parking. Kasian Architecture Interior Design and Planning was selected for its Lifescape™ approach, focusing on connecting physical space with human experience. The design features two 36-story towers, maximizing views of Okanagan Lake while preserving sunlight. Collaborating with city planners, we secured zoning in just six months, creating a vibrant, pedestrian-friendly streetscape. Tenants Amenity Space in a downtown Calgary Office Tower The new tenant amenity space, designed by Kasian Architecture Interior Design and Planning, has recently opened in a prestigious #Calgary office tower, showcasing a harmonious blend of historic charm and modern design. Thoughtfully integrating elements from the building’s heritage structure, the space features exposed brick, traditional paneling, and subtle architectural details that honor its past. These timeless details are contrasted with contemporary design features such as black-framed glass doors, large porcelain tiles, and art-inspired rugs. Designed to enhance the tenant experience, the space combines high ceilings in lounge and conference areas with cozy nooks, complete with fireplaces and wide plank wood floors. Natural materials like wood, stone, and brick are paired with modern touches throughout, such as tinted glass partitions, burnished brass hardware, custom light fixtures, and rich grey woven carpets, creating a refined atmosphere. Scott Mission, serving Toronto's homeless for 80 years, aims to end homelessness through affordable housing. In partnership with Maple Reinders Constructors, Kasian Architecture Interior Design and Planning is leading the redevelopment of their 502 Spadina Avenue site. The nine-storey facility will include 109 affordable housing units, with community and support services on the lower levels. The project replaces existing buildings and expands Scott Mission’s offerings, featuring shelter beds, a food bank, counseling, and educational spaces. The design prioritizes accessibility, sustainability, and community engagement. Completion is expected in 2025, positioning the Mission to significantly impact homelessness and self-sufficiency in Toronto.
