Saving Animals, Serving Communities

About us

The Langley Animal Protection Society’s mandate is to promote the physical, emotional and psychological well being of companion animals in Langley. We carry out our mandate through the use of professional and humane animal control methods and innovative animal welfare programs. As the animal control service provider for the Township and City of Langley, LAPS responds to and investigates complaints from the public seven days a week. From stray dogs to cattle running loose to dogs biting humans, LAPS Animal Control Officers meet each challenge with public safety and animal welfare in mind. Since 2003, LAPS has worked hard to make the welfare of the shelter animals its top priority. Our unparalleled animal enrichment programs reduce stress and keep the animals healthier and happier while they wait for new homes. Thorough adoption procedures ensure that LAPS dogs and cats find the best possible homes. We also help the animals living in the community though our Majors Legacy fund, compassion boarding, pet food bank and our Trap, Neuter, Release program for free-living cats.

LAPS Launches Groundbreaking "New Beginnings Private Adoption Program" to Tackle Pet Surrender Crisis in B.C. As shelters across North America continue to face unprecedented challenges due to overpopulation of animals in need, the Langley Animal Protection Society (LAPS) is proud to announce the launch of its innovative New Beginnings Private Adoption Program. This forward-thinking initiative is designed to alleviate the strain on shelter resources by empowering pet guardians to find new homes for their pets without needing to surrender them to a shelter. The New Beginnings Private Adoption Program offers a proactive approach to pet rehoming, ensuring that critical sheltering resources are reserved for the animals who are most vulnerable and in urgent need of immediate intervention and support. “Pet guardians, and organizations that support them, are facing tremendous challenges thanks to the post pandemic economy and the long-lasting negative impacts on animal welfare. We are seeing an overwhelming number of requests for animals to be surrendered to the shelter. And animals are being abandoned at alarming rates. ” said Sarah Jones, Executive Director of LAPS. “The New Beginnings Program has been created to empower pet guardians to take charge of their pet’s future by connecting directly with potential adoptive families, ensuring a smoother transition and better outcomes for all involved.” The program allows any pet guardian in the Lower Mainland the opportunity to advertise their pets rehoming needs directly to prospective adopters through LAPS’ adoption pages. In addition to the visibility provided, the LAPS New Beginnings Program offers a comprehensive support package for families seeking to rehome their pets. This includes an example ownership transfer document, a social history form to ensure that new adopters have all the necessary information about the pet’s past, preferences, and needs, as well as a rehoming tip sheet to guide guardians through the process. “We believe that by empowering pet guardians with the tools and resources they need, we can create better outcomes for pets and families alike, reserving our sheltering services to those most vulnerable,” added Jones. “The New Beginnings Program is a testament to our commitment to innovative, compassionate solutions that prioritize the well-being of animals.” For more information, visit lapsbc.ca
