This year, as we celebrate the 85th anniversary of Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport and the 100th anniversary of the Royal Canadian Air Force, we’re partnering with the RCAF Foundation | Fondation de l'ARC to honour the amazing achievements of women in aviation all year long. We’re pleased to unveil our latest honouree on the Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport Women in Aviation Wall of Fame: Elizabeth (Elsie) Muriel Gregory MacGill. Elsie was the first woman to earn a master’s degree in aeronautical engineering in 1929 and the first practicing female engineer in Canada. In 1938, she became the chief aeronautical engineer at Canadian Car & Foundry (Can Car), where she led the Canadian production of Hawker Hurricane fighter planes during World War II. A dedicated feminist, Ms. MacGill served as the national president of the Canadian Federation of Business and Professional Women’s Clubs from 1962 to 1964. Additionally, she was a member of the Royal Commission on the Status of Women in Canada from 1967 to 1970. A plaque dedicated to Elsie, along with plaques for our other honourees, is located on the second floor of our passenger terminal. To learn more about Elsie and her achievements, you can also view a digital profile produced by the RCAF Foundation here: https://lnkd.in/eTu9eqBu To learn more about the 85th anniversary of Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport, visit https://lnkd.in/gDBeZ286. Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport conveniently connects passengers to Toronto’s downtown core and to other points in the GTA. To get to his home is Oshawa, Brad used the Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport complimentary shuttle to connect from the airport to Union Station. “I walked off the shuttle, walked into Union Station, walked to the platform. The Go Train came in. I was home in Oshawa in an hour.” Learn more about his story here: https://bit.ly/3rav9HP #ItsMyAirport

Our President and CEO Neil Pakey took part today in a panel discussion with City of Toronto Councillor Shelley Carroll, ICD.D during the first day of the 2024 Toronto Global Forum. The discussion, moderated by Daniel Hengeveld, Vice President of Investment Attraction at Toronto Global, centred on the benefits that Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport provides to Toronto, and how the airport and the City can best leverage the quick and convenient connectivity that the YTZ provides as we collectively look toward the future. YTZ generates $2.1 billion in annual economic output for the city, province and country, and with the late 2025 introduction of U.S. Customs and Border Protection preclearance, this number could increase to $5.3 billion through new U.S. routes and increased aviation activity. Preclearance will also be incredibly important for Toronto ahead of FIFA 26, with visitors able to fly into YTZ and get from “gate to game” in 15 minutes. Over and above the economic benefits the airport provides and the geographical connections it facilitates, YTZ is making important social and cultural connections as well, having supported over 30 community organizations last year; featuring multiple large-scale public art exhibits in the passenger terminal; and connecting patients to the world-class healthcare available in Toronto through the vital services of Ornge air ambulance and Hope Air. Thank-you to Councillor Carroll, Daniel Hengeveld, Toronto Global Forum, and attendees for today’s productive conversation on the bright future ahead for YTZ and Toronto! #Toronto #TorontoGlobalForum #airports #aviation #connectivity #FIFA #healthcare

Meet Linda and Brad, passengers who planned a family trip to Northern Ontario – starting in Thunder Bay. “For a number of years, my aunt and I had talked about doing a Northern Ontario road trip. Flying into Thunder Bay, and driving the car along the north shore of Lake Superior down into Sault Ste. Marie. The convenience of Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport made that trip possible.” Whether for holidays, or bucket-list adventures, at Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport we are proud to help passengers connect and travel with family and friends. That's a wrap on the 2024 #haulforhope at Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport! Thanks to Hope Air for organizing such a wonderful day for a great cause. As the owner and operator of the passenger terminal at YTZ, we help make the connections that matter every day for our passengers, but we're particularly humbled to support the good work that Hope Air does to connect patients from remote communities to the world-class health care available in Toronto. Indeed, for many, YTZ's location just a short walk or transit trip from downtown Toronto isn't just convenient; it's absolutely essential. Thanks to our partners PortsToronto and Porter Airlines Inc., to all of the sponsors, and to all of the individuals and teams who came out today to support this year's Haul for Hope! And of course, congratulations to the winning team: The Brantford Bruins! To find out how you can support Hope Air, please visit https://lnkd.in/gxex4Gx8

Thank you to The Honourable Anita Anand, President of the Treasury Board and Minister of Transport; U.S. Ambassador to Canada David L. Cohen; and Under Secretary, Office of Strategy, Policy, and Plans at the U.S. Department of Homeland Security Robert Silvers for joining us this morning to celebrate the significant benefits that Preclearance at Toronto's downtown airport will bring to economies on both sides of the border. Preclearance will allow Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport to more efficiently move more people to and through Toronto from an increasing number of U.S. destinations, of particular importance ahead of a global event like FIFA 2026, where our unique location downtown can get passengers from "gate to game" in 15 minutes. In addition to the significant enhancements to passenger experience, Preclearance will open up more routes to the United States from Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport, potentially growing the airport’s annual economic contribution to $5.3 billion, boosting employment on both sides of the border, and strengthening bilateral trade and tourism between the United States and Canada. #airports #connectivity #aviation #preclearance #customerexperience
Today, we were honoured to be joined by Minister Anita Anand, Ambassador David Cohen and Undersecretary of Homeland Security, Robert Silvers to announce the latest milestone toward delivering U.S. Customs and Border Protection Preclearance at Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport. Preclearance at #YTZ will not only enhance the passenger experience but it will also welcome a new era of connectivity and convenience from the heart of downtown Toronto. Fittingly, this announcement comes on #worldtourismday. Tourism brings people together and preclearance at Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport will further strengthen the connection between the U.S. and Canada, supporting bilateral trade and creating even more convenient access to the U.S. from #YTZ.
