  • In Ontario's 2024 budget, the Government requested that Ontario's Financial Services Regulator, FSRA, conduct a review of the health service provider guidelines and frameworks. Consultations are open until November 29, 2024, and FSRA is accepting submissions on three (3) papers: 1) Health Service Provider Framework Review 2) Health Claims for Auto Insurance (HCAI) System Review 3) Statutory Accident Benefits Schedule (SABS) Review We encourage members, and all physiotherapists, to make submissions directly to FSRA on the issues that are most relevant to you. OPA is working on a response to these consultations with a focus on key priorities including reducing red tape, advocating for fair compensation, and reducing redundancy in regulation. We will publish our submission with members and on our website. If you would like to share your feedback with OPA to support us in this important work, please submit your thoughts and suggestions on our website by November 11, 2024: https://lnkd.in/gwxQA47m

  • We are excited to share the most recent advocacy efforts from representatives of the Northern Ontario District of OPA, who received an important assurance from the Minister of Health, Sylvia Jones, on the implementation of Bill 179!   On Monday afternoon, Venkadesan R., President of the Northern Ontario District of OPA, and Andy Wang Past-President, attended a roundtable discussion with members of the medical community hosted by Sylvia Jones , Deputy Premier and Minister of Health, in Sudbury. During this important roundtable discussion, Venkadesan and Andy had the opportunity to emphasize the urgency of finalizing regulations that would enable Ontario physiotherapists to directly order diagnostic and laboratory tests. Minister Jones assured them she would review and take the necessary steps to implement Bill 179.   Later that evening, Venkadesan and Andy attended a Leader’s Dinner with Ontario Premier Doug Ford and his cabinet ministers, where they successfully brought this critical issue to the Premier’s attention. We were proud to support these advocacy efforts by equipping our representatives with comprehensive documentation to present to Minister Jones and Premier Ford. Congratulations to Venkadesan and Andy on their impactful work and dedication to advancing the profession. Sarah Hutchison, MHSc. LL.M. ICD.D Amy Hondronicols

  • In the fall of 2023, OPA released a survey examining market fees for private practices in Ontario with a goal of identifying common fees and rates for physiotherapist services in the private sector. OPA engaged with a working group of physiotherapists who represent diverse geographical regions, practice models, and practice sizes across Ontario, as well as a professional consultant, utilizing the data from the market fee survey to develop a Usual and Customary Fee Guideline for physiotherapists, patients, and third-party payers. We are pleased to officially release the 2024 Fee Guideline, which is a significant step in providing guidance on fair and reasonable billing for physiotherapists.
