About us
Paper Excellence is a diversified manufacturer of pulp and paper, including printing and writing, packaging, and specialty papers. We believe in the enduring value of wood-based products in global markets and have built a large network of mills and chipping plants to produce them competitively. Through our distinct approach to operational excellence, we deliver high-quality and cost-effective products to international customers. We manufacture high-quality softwood and hardwood kraft chemical pulps, and chemi-thermo-mechanical pulps, that in turn are used to make packaging, papers, tissues, towels, and other specialty products. Our Catalyst facilities manufacture superior-quality specialty, printing and writing, and packaging papers for retailers, commercial printers, publishers, and customers who convert our products into their own. We have a significant economic impact in Canada, where our operations are important drivers of local and regional economies. We create approximately $4 billion annually in economic activity through wages, tax payments, purchases of goods and services, and support of indirect employment. So much of what we have accomplished is thanks to our incredible team of talented individuals who work tirelessly to set the industry standard and raise the bar. We warmly invite you to learn more about our company and the opportunities we have in store for you.

In celebration of the Sunshine Coast Association for Community Living (SCACL)'s 65th anniversary, Howe Sound Pulp & Paper is honored to contribute to this remarkable organization. SCACL has been a cornerstone in the Sunshine Coast community, with over 90 people supported through various programs including supported housing, community inclusion, and employment assistance. They have a clear mission of providing opportunities for full citizenship to people with developmental disabilities and their vision is equally powerful: to foster a community where everyone belongs, lives with dignity, and enjoys a full life.

Over the past weekend, team members from Paper Excellence in Nova Scotia teamed up with forestry sector partners to assist residents in the Tantallon, Nova Scotia area who were affected by the destructive 2023 wildfires. From May 28 to June 4, 2023, a massive wildfire forced over 16,000 people to evacuate and caused significant damage to lives, homes, and natural spaces in the Halifax Regional Municipality. Paper Excellence is proud to help with the recovery and regeneration efforts in the affected areas by donating 6,200 seedlings from our nursery in Debert to the residents of Westwood Hills, Highland Park, Perry Pond, and Yankeetown. Our contribution includes 1,000 yellow birch, 200 sugar maple, and 5,000 red spruce seedlings, carefully chosen for their resilience and suitability to the local ecosystem. As part of the event, our nursery and forestry team provided guidance and demonstrations on proper planting and tree care, ensuring the best start for these new seedlings. Thanks to Tricia Murray-d'Eon, Chair of the Highland Park Ratepayers Association, for involving us and other members of Nova Scotia’s forestry sector. We are not just providing seedlings; we are offering hope and a hands-on opportunity for residents to actively participate in the healing of their environment.

Last week, we took part in Quw'utsun Sta'lo' Skweyul in Crofton. Almost 300 people attended! Our Crofton mill had an interactive station to showcase the operation of mill from raw materials to finished products. The Cowichan Tribes also hosted traditional salmon cooking over open flames. The Cowichan Sinqua Dancers performed, and Elders shared powerful messages. Local leaders, including MP Alistair MacGregor, also attended. Thank you to everyone who helped make the event such as success. #Community #CowichanTribes #IndigenousCulture

In an industry where women have historically been underrepresented, leaders like Lana Wilhelm, RPF, our Director of Indigenous Relations, are creating new paths for the next generation of female forest professionals. Recently honored with the prestigious Women in Forestry Award of Excellence from the Forest Products Association of Canada, her story will inspire the next generation. https://lnkd.in/genNwGNf

Thank you Forest Products Association of Canada for sharing insights on the important role that forests have on the emerging bioenergy sector. This aligns perfectly with our commitment to sustainability.
Forests can play a crucial role in the emerging bioenergy sector by converting wood residues and by-products into renewable energy & fuels. This process reduces waste, lowers carbon emissions, and can support a more sustainable future: https://lnkd.in/eXhY4jdy #NationalForestWeek

#FSCForestWeek is here! Responsible forest management not only prevents deforestation, but it also protects ecosystems and endangered species that inhabit the world’s forests. Forest Stewardship Council has already accomplished a lot over the last 30 years, and we are proud to be part of its journey as a Certificate Holder. But the mission to protect the world’s biodiversity remains as strong as ever. Learn more about why forests matter for biodiversity, and how you can help: fsc.org/forestweek
