Project Forest Field Update: 2025 #Rewilding Projects with First Nations Planting season may be over, but Project Forest’s work on the ground is still going strong! Over the past two months, Josh Alexis, our Indigenous & Rewilding Specialist, has been building relationships with Elders, Leadership, and land-users from more than 30 First Nations across Treaty 6, 7, 8, and 4, from British Columbia to Manitoba. Josh describes his work as "an opportunity to celebrate connecting with Mother Earth,” building partnerships and sharing the benefits of rewilding land in the heart of each Nation. These discussions are laying the groundwork for transformative projects in 2025, with several Nations already expressing interest in partnering with us. 🌲 Be the first to hear about these projects! Join our email list to stay updated on rewilding news and ways your organization can leave a legacy for future generations. Wishing you and your ghosts and goblins a safe, sustainable, and #HappyHalloween! 🌲👻 Keep your Halloween green this year with these tips: 🎃 Create less food waste by roasting your pumpkin seeds or cooking the pumpkin flesh for a delicious treat 🎃 Compost your pumpkin rather than putting it in the trash 🍭 Use a reusable trick or tree-t bag (we hear pillow cases work well) 👻 Don't throw out your costume, re-use it next year or swap with a friend Have a tree-mendous time! 🌲👻

Why you should leave the leaves! 🍂 Did you know #rewilding isn’t just a spring activity? This fall, let nature take its course by skipping the rake! Leaving leaves in your yard helps enrich the soil, shelters pollinators, and supports wildlife all winter long. 🍁🐞 Just like in the forest, decomposing leaves in our backyards create a mini-ecosystem that boosts #biodiversity and prepares the soil for a thriving spring. Embrace year-round rewilding and let the leaves work their magic! Read more on our blog 👇 #RewildYourBackyard #LeaveTheLeaves #ProjectForest

We're so happy for our Executive Director, Mike Toffan, he's in Northern California right now making his dream of visiting one of the oldest and largest trees in the world come true! And, in true Mike-form, he's sharing this magical experience with all of us! 🌲 💚
Some days are ordinary, and some days are extraordinary 🌲🌲🌲🌲 Today I had the privilege of meeting “The Giant”, a 2200 year old Redwood whom calls Northern California home. It was extremely humbling to know that this tree and all of its relatives have been here for thousands of years, and I can only hope they will be there for thousands more. It was a magical experience to spend time with trees of such magnificence. #redwoods #conservation #california

We're delighted to welcome Enverus to the Project Forest community of partners!🌲 Enverus provides innovative data and analytics solutions to the energy industry. Their services include solutions for oil and gas, power and renewables, and financial trading. Enverus believes in empowering the energy industry with actionable insights, ensuring sustainable growth for future generations. Enverus is partnering with Project Forest to plant 2,000 trees and shrubs at the Project Forest Siksika Nation Community Shelterbelt Project. These shelterbelts, featuring food-bearing and medicinal plants, will provide privacy, mitigate extreme weather, reduce wind speeds, and trap moisture. Additionally, they offer opportunities for Nation members to engage in traditional land-use activities like medicine- and berry-picking, while also addressing climate change. Welcome to the Project Forest community, Enverus! We look forward to working together to rewild Canada, one forest at a time. #indigenouspartnership #forests #esg #corporatesocialresponsibility #givingback

#COP16 is underway in Colombia, and we’re watching. Will leaders from 196 countries commit to take the next step—from promises made in the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (GBF) to action that protects our planet? The challenge is clear, "Biodiversity – the diversity within species, between species, and of ecosystems – is declining faster than at any time in human history." We care a lot about the future of our forests, and we know that you do too! But in the face of a biodiversity crisis, you’re probably wondering how you can make a real difference. The truth is, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed by the scale of the problem. But you don’t have to solve it alone, and you can start right in your own backyard. Project Forest partners with First Nations, conservations groups, and universities to plant biodiverse forests—we’ve planted 36 unique species to date, rewilding ecosystems and restoring biodiversity. Together, with our community of land and funding partners, we are taking action right now, right here at home. 🌱 Don’t wait—join us and be part of the solution. Let's work together to create a greener, more biodiverse future for all. Ready to make a difference? Get in touch with us today! 🌲 #Biodiversity #ProjectForest #OneForestAtATime

The Young Roots Scholarship Launch! 🌲🚀 Project Forest and Ten Peaks Innovation Alliance have joined forces to encourage the next generation of environmental supporters through the Project Forest Young Roots Scholarship. We launched the $500 scholarship at the 10Peaks Innovation Xchange last week to over 600 students from across Alberta. Students will work together to grow lodgepole pine seeds, supplied by Project Forest. The classroom that grows the tallest forest (a cumulative measurement of all the individual trees) will win $500 to put towards a sustainable initiative of their choice. Good luck to all the students and teachers! We can't wait to watch your forests grow. 🌱🌱🌱 For more info, visit: https://lnkd.in/gg4E_kmD #myprojectforestseedling #rewilding #10Peaksinnovation #10PIX

Recently, we rolled up our sleeves to plant 540 trees on Siksika Nation alongside our Keyera Connects partner, Project Forest. 🌲 We're proud to support Project Forest's Siksika Nation Community Shelterbelt Program, which saw more than 130,000 trees and shrubs planted on the Nation in 2024. Shelterbelts protect the land from harsh elements and create opportunities for traditional land-use activities like medicine and berry picking.
