This is what happens when 54,000 sq. ft. are designed for community. Welcome to Oakville Trafalgar Community Centre. Not your average rec centre, this family-friendly spot is built for all your sporting needs. 🏗️ 🏊 It boasts a training pool plus a 25-metre lap pool, both supported by stainless steel walls. The Centre is also home to a double gymnasium, fitness space, running track & multi-purpose meeting rooms. A two-storey galleria is a creative touch for linking its pool & gymnasia. Take a look at these stunning photos by our very own Dana Benadova. 📸 🏆 An engineer by day & photography hobbyist by evening, Dana captured one of the winning shots in RJC's national photo contest. On top of a brand-new rec space, this project called for site amenities, a neighbourhood park & renovations to its existing parking garage. RJCers were excited to be on board as the structural engineers. 💪 The final structure has an inviting vibe — featuring an exposed glulam roof deck over its galleria. The work is brought to fruition with Integrated Project Delivery, a model where all project stakeholders collaborate from start to finish. It's not an average school day when your research changes your province's building code. But it's the story for Milan Marojevic, a new Engineer in Training at RJC Edmonton.   👨🎓 📚 A recent masters grad at University of Alberta, Milan published his thesis this February.   Less than two weeks later, his findings were already picked up in a STANDATA variance to Alberta's Building Code. 🏗️ This means immediate change to reflect Milan's ideas on design & construction of permanent wood foundations with mechanically-laminated timber panels.   Great work, Milan! 👏 Your insights rethink what daily engineering looks like for Albertans. #alberta #edmonton #buildingcode #wooddesign #construction #timber #civilengineers

Always a fun time with Between Friends. 🧡 Welcoming people of all ages, identities & abilities, this Calgary-based organization champions inclusion. It's known for running programs that empower people with disabilities. 💪 40% of participants are on the Autism Spectrum. Here's a snapshot from our third year at Friends in Motion, an annual fundraiser with lots of active games. We played mini putt ⛳️, basketball ⛹️♀️, virtual golf & pool. 🎱 🏆 🎉 With a rockstar like Rhiannon on our team, we even managed to snag a big WIN in the games event. This year's turnout raised a grand total of $94,000.
