Statement from the Calgary Construction Association on the Potential Threat of U.S. Tariffs The Calgary Construction Association (CCA) recognizes the anxiety and uncertainty that potential U.S. tariffs create for businesses and workers in our industry. With this level of uncertainty, it is critical to take a big-picture approach—otherwise, we risk serious consequences which include: -Contractors disengaging from projects or choosing not to bid on essential infrastructure like schools and public facilities; -Owners delaying or postponing projects, causing economic momentum to stall. Even if projects return post-tariffs, costs could still escalate, making them more expensive and difficult to complete. To all public and private entities with projects currently out for tender, we strongly encourage the following: -Provide tariff exemptions for bidders to secure the best possible pricing now. Tariffs, if implemented, can be addressed in due course, but industry will not absorb that risk upfront. -Engage directly with industry to gather real-time data from suppliers and contractors. Understanding market conditions firsthand will inform sound decision-making and project planning. As the situation develops, the CCA remains committed to acting as a conduit for accurate and reliable information. We will continue to monitor developments, engage with policymakers, and provide our members with timely updates. For questions or further discussion, we encourage industry stakeholders to connect with us. Together, we can navigate this uncertainty and maintain stability in Calgary’s construction sector. #Calgary #Construction #Alberta #Canada #Industry #Tariffs

Too often public infrastructure planning, investment and management is driven by short term interest and political expediency that neglects consideration of the whole life needs of the asset including long-term maintenance and operations requirements. The risks and pressure to ensuring our public infrastructure is reliable and resilient are growing…fiscal pressure, stagnant economic growth, productivity, tariffs, and the failure of traditional delivery models. The P3 delivery model for social infrastructure (buildings) is a proven and responsible approach to public infrastructure stewardship. The model leverages the experience, capacity and innovation of the private sector. The Public-Private-Partnership 'P3' model ensures long term maintenance and operations are planned for, committed to, invested in, and managed for the whole life of the public infrastructure preventing deficits, deferred maintenance, and asset deterioration while strengthening reliability and resiliency. P3s are driving the creation of efficient, sustainable, and well-maintained public assets while aligning public and private interests Everyone wins, especially Canadians, when the public and private sectors work together. #Infrastructure #PublicPrivatePartnerships #CanadaInfrastructure #ConcertInfrastructure

Derron Bain, CEO of Concert Infrastructure, recently contributed to the Closing Shot section of ReNew Canada, where he explores the pivotal role of Public-Private Partnerships (P3s) in addressing Canada’s aging infrastructure. From minimizing cost overruns to fostering innovation and ensuring long-term maintenance, P3s offer a proven approach to delivering value for communities across the country. Learn how P3s are driving the creation of efficient, sustainable, and well-maintained public assets while aligning public and private interests. 📖 Read the full article here: https://lnkd.in/gKcXF_cD #Infrastructure #PublicPrivatePartnerships #ConcertInfrastructure #CanadaInfrastructure

  • Public Services and Procurement Canada | Services publics et Approvisionnement Canada and the National Capital Commission - Commission de la capitale nationale announced the start of pre-planning work for a multimodal #bridge in the east of the National Capital Region, connecting City of Ottawa / Ville d’Ottawa and Ville de Gatineau. Currently, the lack of a direct link between Ontario #highways and interprovincial bridges forces heavy trucks to travel through downtown Ottawa, causing congestion, noise and safety risks. By providing a new freight lane, the Eastern Bridge could significantly reduce the 13,000 heavy trucks that pass through downtown Ottawa and Gatineau each week. The next steps include the impact study, the design, the preliminary preparation of the site located on the corridor between the Montée Paiement and the Aviation Parkway, and the development of a #procurement strategy. This new #interprovincial crossing could be built between 2032 and 2034, depending on the impact assessment process and the construction program approach. • Metro Vancouver announced that #construction activity at the North Shore Wastewater Treatment Plant is increasing following execution of the contract with PCL Construction to complete the construction of the plant. “We are pleased to be moving forward in a positive direction on the North Shore Wastewater Treatment Plant in partnership with PCL Construction,” said @Mike Hurley, chair of the Metro Vancouver Board. “Together, we are committed to delivering a high-quality #wastewater treatment facility in the most efficient and effective way possible.” PCL was hired in 2022 for early construction works on the North Shore Wastewater Treatment Plant under a competitive bidding process, with the option to negotiate a contract for completing the full project. Now, work is ramping up as PCL expands its construction program and continues to mobilize staff, equipment, and materials to the site. Within the contract with PCL, Metro Vancouver expects that around 50 per cent of the work to complete the project will be competitively bid among subcontractors, vendors, and suppliers. The total estimated contract price of $1.95 billion is within the approved budget for the program. READ THE FULL STORY: https://lnkd.in/gWfscrx2
