International disaster relief charity that delivers emergency shelter for families affected by disaster and conflict
About us
ShelterBox is an international disaster relief charity that hand-delivers the emergency shelter and tools families need to self-recover after natural disasters and conflict. Recovery starts with shelter. Having somewhere dry and warm to sleep, to prepare meals and be with your family, is vital for starting the long process of recovery. Our signature ShelterBoxes and ShelterKits contain the tools to transform lives and rebuild communities. We are impatient to see a world where no family is left without shelter. Are you? ShelterBox Canada is an affiliate of the international network of ShelterBox organizations around the world. Charitable registration number: 84628 3208 RR0001

⛈️ ShelterBox Team Arrives in Bangladesh After Devastating Floods ⛈️ Our team has arrived in Bangladesh where monsoon rains and flash floods have displaced over half a million people. Homes, roads, and farmland are underwater. We’re assessing the situation to see if and how we can support people with emergency shelter. We have just completed aid distributions in the southwest of the country following Cyclone Remal (pictured). As climate change intensifies, disasters will happen in the same places again and again. Your support is needed more than ever. https://lnkd.in/gCa3MdN3

It's been over a year since the devastating 6.8 magnitude earthquake in Morocco. Mohamed’s life was turned upside down when he lost his wife, son and sister in the disaster. Despite his immense personal loss, Mohamed has worked tirelessly to help his village, ensuring everyone has the shelter and resources they need to survive. ShelterBox supported more than 1,200 families in the response to the earthquakes. Together we can make sure no one is left without shelter after disaster.

Earlier this year, we had the opportunity work alongside a group of amazing #Rotaract volunteers while distributing aid to people in the Afar region of Ethiopia. Among those helping was Ezra, who was kind enough to share his experience with our team. Watch below 👇⚙️

🌀 In June 2024, Hurricane Beryl rapidly developed into a category 5 hurricane and made landfall across the Caribbean with winds of 160mph. It destroyed homes, uprooted trees, and brought down power lines. On Carriacou Island, where ShelterBox is responding, more than 95% of homes were totally destroyed. One resident, 65-year-old Godwin, told our team "Nothing has ever hit you like this hurricane... Some people are feeling like they want to just leave, but the opportunity is not there. I lost my house, I have to put the roof back and all my contents is gone." Due to the climate crisis, storms like Hurricane Beryl are becoming stronger, increasing the likelihood for devastation and death in many places across the world. We know emergency shelter will be needed more than ever before.

ShelterBox is a #humanitarian organization. But what does this mean? On #WorldHumanitarianDay, we’re taking a moment to reflect on what it truly means to be a humanitarian and the risks our partners face every day. Read more here 👇 https://lnkd.in/g4pDW73P

Huge shoutout to our amazing board members, Stephen and Alex! Back in July, they conquered an incredible 200km bike ride in Mt Tremblant, Quebec to raise awareness and funds for ShelterBox. They surpassed their fundraising goal, raising an astonishing $3,700! Thank you both for your incredible effort. 🤩💚 You rock!! This is what 95% of homes destroyed looks like 👇💔 Our team is on Carriacou Island following the devastation left behind by Hurricane Beryl. Working with our partner Rotary International, we will be delivering tents, mosquito nets, solar lights, and cooking sets to people uprooted by the storm. With lumber scarce, these tents will provide temporary homes, allowing people to stay in their communities until they can rebuild. To learn more, visit https://lnkd.in/gEqj_jxb
