We are very proud foundational sponsors of XPRIZE Healthspan, a 7-year, $101M global competition to revolutionize the way we approach human aging. Rather than focusing on lifespan, this competition seeks to find therapeutics that will extend healthy life & improve function, 2 goals that have natural synergy with our mission. Technical Apparel Expert. Founder of Westbeach Snowboard, Low Tide Properties, lululemon athletica and the Wilson 5 Foundation.

I was diagnosed with FSHD (facioscapulohumeral muscular dystrophy) at 32. I’d completed an Ironman just 3 years prior & the thought of slowing down athletically was inconceivable to me. But while I’ve been lucky that my FSHD is slower moving than some, it has progressed steadily over the years & now, many of my muscles have since turned to fibrous fat.   Instead of complaining though, I did what I always do: I looked for a way to get on the court rather than watch from the stands. I know there is no performance in life without action, & I decided to take action by committing a great amount of my wealth to eliminating bottlenecks in science. SOLVE FSHD was born from this mission to find a cure for FSHD & I committed $100M towards SOLVE’s cause. Finding a cure to FSHD would not just benefit those with muscular dystrophy, but also carry major impact for muscle degeneration as it relates to aging and healthspan as a whole. I’m very proud that SOLVE FSHD is a sponsor of XPRIZE Healthspan, a 7-year, $101 million global competition to revolutionize the way we approach human aging. Rather than focusing on lifespan, this competition seeks to find therapeutics that will extend healthy life & improve function, 2 goals that can benefit us all & has natural synergy with SOLVE’s mission of curing FSHD.   I’ve always said good is the enemy of great, & the same applies to aging; we shouldn’t seek to simply have longer lives, but healthier lives for the entirety of our years on earth. Put simply, it’s healthspan > lifespan. Want to learn more? Visit https://lnkd.in/dcKeUA7F to register a team or learn more about the competition and SOLVE'S $10M FSHD bonus prize.
