  • This past Sunday, over 400 participants, donors, and sponsors came together for A Run for Chris! More than $40,300 was raised in support of mental health and addiction care here at St. Joe's Youth Wellness Centre and we couldn’t be more grateful! 💙🏃♀️ Hosted in memory of Chris Owens, and expertly coordinated by organizers Michelle Owens and Megan Roti, A Run for Chris 2024 was a great success. With warm weather, heartfelt speeches, good food, and of course a 5km run to honour Chris’ favourite pastime, our community came together like never before! In remembrance of Chris’ bright and loving spirit, the Valeri family kindly had a memorial bench in Chris’ name installed at Joe Sams Leisure Park which was unveiled at the event. Next time you visit the park, we encourage you to take a moment, sit on the bench, take in the nature that surrounds you, and remember Chris’ story. The funds raised will help St. Joe’s Youth Wellness Centre to provide a safe and compassionate environment for youth in our community to receive expert care for mental health and substance use concerns. So that no matter what brings someone to our doors, the expert team here at St. Joe's YWC will be ready to help. A special thank you goes out to all the sponsors whose donations helped this event succeed! To learn more, read the full story here: https://lnkd.in/gmvunxQJ

  • Help adorn St. Joe’s with decorated ceiling tiles to promote wellness in healthcare settings! You can sponsor a ceiling tile in honour or in memory of a loved one, or simply to give back to St. Joe’s. Donors can select from more than 20 pre-painted ceiling tiles, including the ones featured here, and pick a preferred area of the hospital where they would like the ceiling tile installed. To view the selection of available ceiling tiles or to donate, visit https://lnkd.in/g29nkQwc This program is in collaboration with The Mac Med Mural Project, led by a group of medical students at McMaster University who have painted unique works of art on ceiling tiles – an unconventional canvas designed to bring smiles to the faces of patients, family members, visitors, volunteers, and healthcare workers alike. The beautiful designs include messages of hope, resilience, and strength. 🎨Tile 1: ‘Breeze’ by Anshika Jain ($125) “Some days are windy and gloomy but then at some point the sun will peek out, and there will be a warm breeze to bask in. I think even through the stormiest days of life, by remaining intentional about seeking beauty in the difficult moments we do find it and have the power to transform our experience.” 🎨 Tile 2: Milo & Otis by Asil El Galad, Michaela Dowling and Sabrina Sikka ($125) “Milo and Otis are two dogs cuddling each other in a warm sweater. We hope this image reminds us to lean into our support systems during difficult moments, as love can sometimes be just as powerful as medicine.” 🎨 Tile 3: Water & Sunlight by Stephanie Chen ($125) “Just below the surface is a world of both tranquil stillness and flowing peace. If you turn your face towards the sky, sunlight dances on the waves and warms your skin. Just like a fond memory of a day at the beach, I hope that this piece brings you peace and calm!”

Though it’s been three years, Chris’ commitment to his fight, his vulnerability with others, and the obstacles he overcame in coming out about his sexuality have left a lasting impact on our community. He will forever be remembered as the most passionate, energetic, loving human being that anyone has ever known, stranger or family. Chris’ sense of humour was unmatched and his presence was undeniable. 🌟 About the Youth Wellness Centre (YWC) 🌟 @stjoesywc is a safe environment for young people ages 17 to 25 to receive expert care for mental health and substance use concerns.
