To mark National Indigenous Peoples Day on June 21, we are very pleased to release the annual Confederation of Tomorrow report on attitudes towards reconciliation in Canada. The 2024 survey finds that most continue to believe that individual Canadians have a role to play in advancing reconciliation between Indigenous and non-Indigenous people. And a clear majority of Canadians continues to feel optimistic that meaningful progress toward reconciliation will happen in their lifetime. Read all the details here 👉 https://lnkd.in/gSJUrW2q) Thanks to our Confederation of Tomorrow partners: First Nations Financial Management Board; Institute for Research on Public Policy (IRPP); Canada West Foundation; Centre d'analyse politique - Constitution et fédéralisme; Brian Mulroney Institute of Government

Upcoming Event: Syrian Refugee Resettlement in Canada: Retrospective and Reflections Tuesday, September 17 6:30 - 9:30pm Innis Town Hall, 2 Sussex Avenue, Toronto, ON Register here 👉 https://lnkd.in/gyNhj56Z The Environics Institute, in partnership the Diversity Institute, Alsaha and the Canadian Arab Institute, are hosting a free public event in Toronto to showcase the Institute’s research on Syrian refugee lived experience in Canada, as the basis for a broader retrospective consideration of the Syrian Refugee Resettlement Initiative and what we can learn from it. The event will feature the premiere screening of a unique new documentary about the experiences of Syrian refugees who arrived in Canada in 2015 and 2016. New Syrian-Canadians describe in their own words what it is like to be displaced by conflict, to arrive and settle in Canada, and to plan for their future in a new country. The 30-minute screening will be followed by a panel discussion.

As gender wars take center stage in the 2024 US Election, our Co-Founder at Environics Research, Michael Adams, and Chief Scientist, David Jamieson, reveal that 49% of Americans believe in the father’s role as master of the house—a belief that has remained persistent over the last 30 years. In their latest article for The Globe and Mail, Michael and David also draw interesting comparisons to the values of Canadians, and our attitudes towards #patriarchy and the master of the household. Earlier this year, we partnered with The Environics Institute for Survey Research to produce a report on the perspectives of second-generation Canadians, or individuals born in Canada with at least one parent born outside of Canada. The findings were insightful – although they were generally more optimistic than others in their age group, they shared many of the same concerns around financial security and overall life satisfaction. What else did we learn? 💡higher importance on preserving ethnic and religious identities 💡more civically engaged and interested in politics, although were more critical than their parents 💡value post-secondary education less than first-gen newcomers Learn more: https://lnkd.in/g_KEACGa

The Environics Institute was pleased to partner with the Canadian International Council to explore Canadian public opinion about conflict in the Middle East. Our survey puts opinions today in context by comparing them to those from earlier Focus Canada surveys. Focus Canada has been tracking Canadians’ sympathies in the Middle East since the early 1980s (Focus Canada is the longest continuing program of public interest, public opinion research in Canada.) Since 2006 (the most recent survey prior to the current one), the proportion of Canadians who say they are neutral has declined significantly (down 14 percentage points), with increasing percentages who now express pro-Palestinian sympathies (up 8 points) or have no opinion (up 8 points). The percentage with pro-Israeli sympathies has declined marginally (down 3). See our full report here 👉 https://lnkd.in/dmhcFK8E
