Saturday was wild - in only 2 hours we found foster homes for 17 animals, helped finalize one adoption (we ran out of foster cats and she was ready to commit!), and signed up 20 new foster families. You really are incredible! Thank you for always showing up for us and our animals, and stay tuned for more events like this. 🐱🤘

About us
The Winnipeg Humane Society is a registered charity and non-profit, volunteer-based organization funded primarily by donations and bequests. Mission: To protect animals from suffering and to promote their welfare and dignity Vision: Animals are treated humanely The Winnipeg Humane Society is one of the oldest community service organizations in Winnipeg and the oldest and largest animal shelter and welfare organization in Manitoba. Founded over 115 years ago, the organization has come a long way from the days of housing animals on the main floor of a house while the shelter secretary lived upstairs. Originally formed as the “Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Women, Children and Animals” the shelter’s board and founding members consisted of a broad cross section of Winnipeg citizens from businessmen, to lawyers, to progressively minded women. Over the years, as other agencies were formed to support women and children, The WHS reorganized with the goal of focusing on animals. After over 30 years of running the shelter out of a house on Logan Ave, The WHS relocated to a new building on Kent Street in the late 1960’s. Almost 40 years later in 2007, a new, state-of-the-art facility was built to accommodate the 8.500 animals that cross through the shelter doors annually.

Bill C-355, to stop the live exportation of horses for slaughter, is currently being stalled in the Senate - we need your voice more than ever. "Between May 2023 and June 2024 alone, at least 21 horses shipped from Canada died during transport to Japan or in the hours and days after landing. More than 50 more animals sustained injuries and illnesses. Horses exported for slaughter are dying prolonged and painful deaths caused by dehydration, severe injuries sustained by falling on the flights, and even agonizing miscarriages." Speak up for horses, and read the full Daily Hive article: https://lnkd.in/gE2_YdBg

Help! We're in need of puppy pee pads of all sizes! If you have any to spare, or would like to purchase and donate, we would be so grateful. You can send Amazon orders directly to 45 Hurst Way, or even purchase through the www.whspetshop.com (with proceeds going back to the shelter 😉) - just make a note they're a donation. Thank you so much for helping us give our animals the best care possible!

We've already found one senior boy a home this week, let's make it 2! This sweetie is 11 yr old Koby who, despite his size, is likely to curl up in your lap for a cuddle. A true gentle giant with the softest coat. Help share Koby so his family can find him! And keep your eyes peeled next week - we've got an adoption event coming down the pipe 👀. ☎️ 204-982-2035

🥔 We're so happy for this little potato and his fam. "Just wanted to give a little update on Spud (formerly Marty) who we adopted in August. He's adjusted beautifully! He loves all three dogs but Martini the weenie (pictured in 2) is his favourite! He drinks from the dog dish with the dogs despite having his own food and water dishes in his room, he’s been learning about his crate and car rides with few complaints, and loves training with chicken! He currently does a nice sit and placement/target cue. We're working on building muscle for a sit pretty, and spin and twist for mobility. He's such a sweet spunky boy! Thank you for providing such amazing care for him before we met him! We love him so much." - Paige

You did it, you've nearly cleared us out of cats needing foster homes. THANK YOU! We're still having our Foster Frenzy this Saturday - if you've ever been interested in fostering and have questions, we'll have folks here to walk you through the ins and outs of our incredible program. We'll also be sharing some of the dogs in our care needing temporary homes, so if you're looking for a canine buddy for a bit, stay tuned!
