From Local to Global! 🌍✨ Did you know that TRIEC's Mentoring Partnership has inspired change far beyond Canadian borders? Today, in recognition of German Heritage Month, we’re proud to spotlight how TRIEC’s transformational work is inspiring global workforce integration solutions! In March 2023, a German federal delegation led by Hubertus Heil, Minister of Labour and Social Affairs, and Prof. Dr. Lars Castellucci, MP, visited TRIEC to explore how our groundbreaking initiatives in immigrant employment, especially the TRIEC Mentoring Partnership (TMP), could serve as a model for global workforce solutions. Similarly, in May 2024, the Integration Committee of North Rhine-Westphalia, led by Dr. Gregor Kaiser, Chair of the Committee, visited TRIEC to discuss strategic immigration practices, with an emphasis on recruiting and integrating skilled workers to meet labour market needs. This exchange of ideas dates back to 2011 when Tür an Tür a German NGO, first learned about TMP at the Metropolis Conference. Inspired, they launched The Mentoring Partnership Augsburg (www.migranet.org/mentoring) in 2013, expanding TMP's influence across five Bavarian cities with funding from the German Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs. As we proudly commemorate two decades of the TRIEC Mentoring Partnership (TMP), its profound impact transcends borders, championing inclusive workforce practices worldwide. Through these transformative efforts, TRIEC is not just shaping the future of global economies but actively dismantling barriers for immigrant talent, paving the way for a more equitable workforce for all. #GermanHeritageMonth #ImmigrantIntegration #GlobalImpact #MentorshipMatters #BestPractices #GlobalCollaboration #TRIEC #TMP

💡 Did you know that HERIEC (Helsinki Region Immigrant Employment Council) was modeled after TRIEC? Established in Helsinki in 2011, it aims to address employment barriers for immigrants in the Helsinki region by engaging employers and other stakeholders in finding solutions to integrate skilled immigrants into the local workforce. Last week, TRIEC proudly hosted delegates from the City of Helsinki as part of their study tour to Toronto! 🌍This meeting provided an invaluable opportunity to share how TRIEC collaborates with employers to foster an inclusive environment that empowers immigrant talent in Canada. Although we have made strides, there remain opportunities for improvement. Our refreshing conversation with the delegates from Finland inspired us to continue to build on our experience and develop even more impactful programs. Thank you to our guests from Helsinki for visiting TRIEC! We look forward to continuing this dialogue and collaborating with international partners to share best practices that set immigrants up for success in their new home and strengthen our communities. Here’s to building bridges and creating a brighter future for all—across continents! Pisteytysjärjestelmän kautta maahan saapuu korkeasti koulutettuja osaajia, joiden palkkojen on todettu muutamassa vuodessa ohittavan kanadalaisten keskipalkan. Kiitos aiempien selvitysten ja Laura Koivisto-Khazaalin aktiivisen tiedonjaon, Kanadan maahanmuuttopolitiikka on ollut itselleni teorian tasolla tuttu. Tapaamisten kautta ymmärrys Kanadan mallista kuitenkin syveni. Työmarkkinoiden vastaanottavuus on edellytys Kanadan osaamisvetoisen maahanmuuttoväylän menestykselle. Osaamisvetoisen mallin lisäksi käytössä on lukuisia eri työnantajien tarpeisiin perustuvia väyliä. Käytännöt vaihtelevat provinssista toiseen ja erilaisia maahanmuutto-ohjelmia on kymmeniä. Myös moni startup-yrittäjäksi päätyvä tulee maahan pisteytysjärjestelmän kautta, eikä varsinaisella startup-viisumilla, joka sekin Kanadasta löytyy. Valtio tukee innovaatioekosysteemien syntymistä vahvasti rahoittamalla inkubaattoreiden toimintaa, joten startupeilla on runsaasti alustoja, joihin kiinnittyä. “Employers have the power to transform the Canadian Labour Market.” This powerful assertion from Gillian Mason, CEO of TRIEC, set the tone for her impactful session at the Ontario Public Works Association (OPWA) Building Inclusive Workspaces: Welcoming New Canadians and Inclusive Leadership Conference today. Drawing from TRIEC’s latest research, based on a survey of 500 HR professionals, hiring managers, and EDI practitioners in the GTA, Gillian shed light on the ongoing challenges faced by highly skilled immigrants. Despite a narrowing employment gap between newcomers and Canadian-born workers, significant barriers still exist, often offering talented individuals into roles that do not reflect their true potential. The presentation emphasized the crucial role of employers in facilitating immigrant labour market entry and advancement in the Greater Toronto Area. It delved into employer attitudes and actions toward immigrant job applicants and employees, guiding actionable recommendations. A huge thank you to OPWA for facilitating this important dialogue and to all participants for their commitment to fostering a more inclusive and innovative workforce. Immigrant professionals often face a hidden barrier to fair employment: they lack the connections to access crucial salary information in their fields, leaving them at a disadvantage. Publishing salaries in job ads can counter this lack of transparency and promote fairness. Instead of using vague terms like "commensurate" or "competitive," provide a clear salary range. If there's room for negotiation, make that explicit and track negotiation outcomes to ensure equity. Unlock the potential of your hiring practices!
