Central Alberta is and has been home to First Nations and Métis Peoples long before Alberta became a province. The City of Red Deer is located on the boundary between Treaty 6 Territory north of the Red Deer River, Treaty 7 Territory south of the Red Deer River, and Otipemisiwak Métis Division 3. We honour the Ancestorial lands and the Indigenous peoples who have lived here for millennia. Today, we recognize National Truth and Reconciliation Day and honour the survivors, the children who never returned home, their families, and their communities. National Truth and Reconciliation Day highlights the importance of continuing to acknowledge the truths, heal the wounds, and build bridges of understanding.
