  • Join the TAC Ontario Chapter to listen to Dr. Ali Nasekhian, Senior Associate Dr. Sauer & Partners (DSP) discuss the London Underground's Bank Station Capacity Upgrade. Session Abstract: Bank Station is a London Underground station located in the heart of the City of London and is a key interchange served by five lines. The Bank Station Capacity Upgrade (BSCU) was completed for TfL by Dragados and Dr Sauer & Partners with the aim of relieving heavy passenger congestion during peak hours for boarding, alighting and interchange. The conceptual design commenced in the summer of 2013 and the project was fully delivered in May 2023. The capacity upgrade was composed of a new southbound platform tunnel and associated length of running tunnel for the Northern line, connecting passageways and openings into the existing station tunnels, including 3 tunnelled escalators. Effective communication between the client and the design and construction teams helped to enable improvements in design and innovation on the multiple award-winning Bank Station Capacity Upgrade (BSCU) project, in London. A tunnel designer’s retrospective is presented by Dr. Ali Nasekhian (Design Manager) of Dr. Sauer & Partners. Please register online ahead of the event: https://buff.ly/3MqqoAE Compliments of Dr. Sauer & Partners (including food & drink)! #TACOntario #Tunnelling #LondonUnderground #BankStation

  • The TAC Young Member’s Committee is excited to announce the next session in our educational series for our members led by speaker Ali Fallah Yeznabad, GHD Consultant "Probabilistic Seismic Hazard Analysis and Performance-based Analysis for Design and Analysis of Geo-structural Systems: Case Study of Sloping Grounds in Greater Vancouver, BC." In this presentation on Tuesday, July 9, 2024, at 3 pm (EST) / 12 pm (PST), an example of embankments and sloping grounds in Greater Vancouver, based on the local tectonic of BC are considered where the criterion of acceptable performance is usually specified by tolerable displacements of the soil body. PSHA and local seismicity and their effects are elaborated, and the difference between a probabilistic solution and a traditional pseud-probabilistic method is also shown. Based on realistic and more accurate results of PSHA-based PBD, this kind of analysis is recommended for future seismic evaluations in the area of geo-structural systems. Learn more about the presentation and the speaker at: https://buff.ly/40sL5AX Focused on introductory topics, the webinar series will strive to teach basic tunnelling themes not often taught in school but beneficial to those working in the industry. If you’re a student, just starting your career, or someone who likes to continually learn, then you’ll be sure to pick up something new. #TAC #YoungMembers #Tunnelling #CanadianTunneling #geo-structural #seismichazardanalysis
