We had an amazing turnout for our latest TVO screening at Hot Docs Ted Rogers Cinema! More than 500 people came to experience a special 4K presentation of #TVOOriginal All Too Clear, an extraordinary documentary by husband-and-wife filmmaking duo and founders of Inspired Planet Productions, Zachary Melnick and Yvonne Drebert. Using cutting-edge underwater drones, this immersive film investigates the massive impact of quagga mussels—tiny invasive creatures that are transforming the ecosystem of the Great Lakes. After the screening, TVO Commissioning Editor Alexandra Roberts led an insightful panel discussion with Yvonne Drebert, Zachary Melnick, and David Sweetnam, Executive Director of Georgian Bay Forever, offering a behind-the-scenes look at the innovative technology used to bring this story to life. We’re deeply grateful to everyone who joined us. As a social impact charity, events like these highlight our commitment to fostering meaningful conversations that enrich our communities. Join us in making a difference—support TVO so we can keep delivering free programs and services like these in communities all over Ontario: https://lnkd.in/ehYVPFPw

Music is a powerful connector to our history and our culture. And, when matched with the power of documentary storytelling, the audience becomes witness to incredible moments that change lives. This is exemplified in the TVO Original documentary Play it Loud! How Toronto Got Soul, which uncovers the little-known story of how Jamaican music became an important part of Canadian culture, told through the life, music, struggles, and triumphs of beloved Jamaican Canadian singer Jay Douglas. Though Douglas gained global recognition, his achievements were largely overlooked in his own hometown of Toronto. In the face of racism and indifference, Jay's story stands as a powerful reminder of resilience and determination, showcasing how he overcame adversity and helped pave the way for today’s Black Canadian music stars. I am proud that at TVO Media Education Group we provide a platform for stories like Jay’s, which often go untold, and that we continue to curate content that amplifies Black voices and celebrates Black communities. Six decades later, Jay is finally receiving the recognition he has long deserved and it’s time we honor his contributions to both music and culture. I encourage everyone to learn about this incredible journey of a true trailblazer - watch Play It Loud! at a local theatre screening or stream it on TVO. https://lnkd.in/eGHmy-Qw
