Helping companies, coaches & educators teach Empathy, Failure, and Creative Collaboration with Toys!

About us

Twenty One Toys is a multi-award winning training and development toy company using toys to teach what powerpoints can’t – skills like empathy, failure, and creative communication. The World Economic Forum has called these skills the future of work, but we stop teaching them after kindergarten. Twenty One Toys was created to change that. First featured on TEDx, and for players aged kid to CEO, their multi-award winning Empathy Toys and Failure Toys are being used by thousands of teams and schools in over 50 countries. Proving that the future of work is human, Twenty One Toys is well on its way to creating the world's first global community of empathic and resilient leaders. Even TIME magazine has praised their toys as a future technology!

"Who knew failing could be so much fun!" - Earth Rated CEO Abby Gnanendran BIG congrats to the amazing team at Earth Rated for a playfilled #FailureToy Workshop at their Town Hall this week in Montreal. The day wouldn't have been possible without the help and dedication of Earth Rated's Monali Patel, Andreea, Dawn-Marie Soulliere, and our expert facilitator Ryan Burwell!

We know that Town Halls play an important role in fostering alignment within a team, and we also know that our team looks forward to each one! The theme for our most recent gathering? 'Failure for Innovation.' To further explore the topic, Earth Rated employees were invited to submit questions related to "failure" in advance so our CEO could address them in his keynote. Whether it’s exploring the role of failure in taking risks, sharing strategies for resilience, or discussing ways to turn setbacks into opportunities. In addition, we all participated in a Failure Workshop! An engaging session with Twenty One Toys, a learning and development company that uses play to help teams all over the world practice 21st-century skills. We're excited to continue exploring the insights we learned and thankful for this unique experience. Innovation happens when we are willing to take risks, learn from setbacks, and adapt. So here's to embracing failure and the growth it can bring! #TownHalls #TeamBuilding #Innovation

The Coffee Chat Guy - Helping experienced immigrant professionals who feel stuck turn coffee chats into career breakthroughs

The Painful Truth About Failure (and How I Learned to Embrace It) Yesterday, I participated in a game called 'The Failure Toy' and it changed my perception of failure. I learned more about failure in 1 hour than in my entire life. Thank you Twenty One Toys! Also thank you, Town of Innisfil not only for being the greatest city to live in but for investing and supporting entrepreneurs. You make us feel like superheroes. Key Takeaways: - Failure is Personal: It's not just about the project or venture. We can internalize it and develop a negative self-image. - Context Matters: Not all failures are created equal. Some are minor learning experiences, while others have bigger consequences. - Embrace the Journey: Failure is an inevitable part of the learning process. We need to allow ourselves to process it and learn from it. My biggest AHA moment: During the game, my team kept winning, but I couldn't shake the feeling we could do better. Each round we did better than the previous but my focus remained on beating the "world champion." That's when it hit me. Failure is based on comparison. We need to normalize this and talk more about it. How is your relationship with Failure?

Thought-provoking The New York Times article on the importance of embracing our humanity and leveraging our unique strengths in the age of AI. Now more than ever, people skills and our human abilities to communicate, empathize and collaborate are essential for innovation and problem solving. Aneesh Raman and Maria Flynn, both experts in workforce development and education, point out the importance of building interpersonal relationships, fostering positive work cultures and guiding and motivating teams. As we navigate this significant workforce innovation, I look forward to how we can successfully apply our soft skills through this transformation.

Two weeks ago, the fifth cohort of our Innovate Financial Health Lab kicked off at the Ontario Investment and Trade Centre in #Toronto, welcoming eight outstanding startups from across Canada: ClearJar and InTuitionPay Inc. (Alberta), ElektraFi (BC), CompareHealth (Manitoba), Buyer Folio and Bidmii, Escheatify, and Karla Rewards (GTA). Our kick-off is always an exciting opportunity for our team and founders to connect, learn about each other, and create a community of support that will carry them through the three-month program and beyond. Day 1: Unleashing Potential and Perfecting Product-Market Fit 💡 The journey began with Mthabisi Mhlanga, CPA, CSPO inspiring our founders to conquer their public speaking fears and embrace their authentic narratives, setting a powerful tone for how they present themselves in pitches and networking. The afternoon session, led by Christopher Bardos, delved into the essence of Product-Market Fit, exploring the critical balance of desirability, viability, and feasibility. Founders resonated with the idea of widening out to narrow in when iterating towards fit, and we dug deep on beachhead markets and what makes a must-change versus a should or could change job. Day 2: Cultivating Values and Envisioning Impact 🌱 Amidst a surprise spring snowstorm, our focus shifted to the core of company values and the mechanics of making meaningful change. Jerry Koh introduced the concept of systemic change, guiding our founders through identifying change leverage points. Following Jerry, Olga Cruz facilitated a session on developing an impact measurement strategy, utilizing the Good & Well Inc. Well framework to enable startups to map their impact comprehensively from inputs to outcomes. The day concluded with Morgan Toane, PCC Toane from KOHO, who led an interactive discussion on the significance of company culture, the importance of open communication channels, and the influence of biases and backgrounds on leadership practices. Morgan’s session, featuring the Empathy Toy from Twenty One Toys., was particularly memorable, offering a unique lens on empathy in leadership. We're thrilled to share more about each of the founders and startups over the coming weeks and further details about our Demo Day on June 17th 🚀Special thanks to our partners, including JPMorgan Chase & Co., for supporting this journey of innovation and impact. #InnovateFinance #DemoDay2024 #ImpactInnovation #IFHLab 💼🌟

Human Resources Professional passionate about bringing on the best talent and keeping them engaged!

Our Extended Leadership Group met this week to discuss our progress and next steps to achieving our shared goals. We collaborated with Twenty One Toys to help us gain insights into our communication and leadership styles and it was eye opening. Through play, we learned valuable lessons that we referenced throughout the week and I suspect will become imbedded as part of our shared language. This was a great investment in our team! Thank you to Ryan Burwell for Facilitating and Maya Chandarana for introducing us to this opportunity and Ilana Ben-Ari (she/her) for helping working with us before the event!

"Although the leaders were initially skeptical, they were able to draw parallels to their work and it turned out to be a very memorable and impactful part of the day." - Stephanie Kessler at ecobee Thank you (and Kristen Sako) for sharing your toy story! We love to see when leaders get those "aha moments" through play ✨

Earlier this year, I had the privilege of participating in an Engineering Leader onsite event hosted by Jean-Luc Dery. As part of the event, my TA partner Kristen Sako and I ran an ice breaker using the Empathy Toy workshop. Although the leaders were initially skeptical, they were able to draw parallels to their work and it turned out to be a very memorable and impactful part of the day. Thank you, JL, for the opportunity to partner with the HR team!
