About us

United Way Waterloo Region Communities is dedicated to helping people live better lives in every one of the seven communities we serve. We are fundraisers who support a network of agencies whose programs and services are locally focused, informed, connected and deeply invested in helping people reach their full potential. We engage and mobilize the community around grassroots causes. The funds we raise support a network of agencies whose programs and services deliver community wide benefits. Our investments include everything from emergency food and shelter services to enable people to meet their basic needs; to counselling and harm reduction programs helping people live healthier lives; to after school and mentorship activities which provide vulnerable young people a chance at a better future. To ensure critical agencies, programs and services get the funding they need, and to ensure donors have a clear line of site to the work we do, we have focused on cause-based giving. Campaign for a Cause is a targeted community campaign that provides the opportunity for you or your workplace to give back in a way that aligns directly with your values and goals. • Yesterday, we teamed up with MNP for their Day of Caring at Nutrition for Learning, Waterloo Region! We had the privilege of touring their warehouse and witnessing the amazing work they do to support students in our community. Together, we packed 4672 single servings of dates and raisins, which will be delivered to 10 local schools, ensuring kids have access to healthy snacks. A huge thank you to everyone who rolled up their sleeves and made a meaningful impact! #DayOfCaring

  • As a national charity deeply connected to our local communities, we are committed to the principles of Truth and Reconciliation. On this National Day of Truth and Reconciliation, we pause to reflect on the history and enduring impact of residential schools on Indigenous peoples. Let us listen to their stories, honour their resilience, and dedicate ourselves to fostering healing and reconciliation.

  • Our office will be closed on Monday, September 30th as members of our staff participate in events observing National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. This day holds profound significance for our nation and our communities. At United Way Waterloo Region Communities, we are committed to honoring the families affected by the residential school system and recognizing the wisdom, strength, and resilience of Indigenous communities across Canada. The National Day for Truth and Reconciliation serves as a poignant reminder of the ongoing impact of colonialism and underscores the critical importance of reconciliation efforts in our country. We believe that true reconciliation requires more than just acknowledgment; it demands action. As an organization dedicated to building stronger, more inclusive communities, we encourage everyone to take this day as an opportunity for learning, reflection, and commitment to change. We must each consider how we can contribute, both in our professional and personal lives, to achieving the 94 Calls to Action set forth by the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada in 2015. While wearing an orange shirt on this day demonstrates support and a willingness to engage, we recognize that it is only a small step in a much longer and more meaningful journey. True reconciliation requires ongoing effort, education, and a commitment to amplifying Indigenous voices and perspectives. As we observe this day, let us reflect on our collective responsibility to foster a more just and equitable society. Let us commit to continuous learning about Indigenous history, culture, and contemporary issues. Most importantly, let us work together to create lasting change that honors the past while building a more inclusive future for all. We encourage our network to use this day for education and reflection. Consider attending local events, engaging with Indigenous-led organizations, or exploring resources that deepen understanding of Indigenous experiences and perspectives. Together, we can move beyond symbolic gestures towards meaningful action that supports reconciliation and builds stronger, more inclusive communities for all. #NationalDayforTruthandReconciliation #NDTR #TruthAndReconciliationDay #EveryChildMatters #ReconciliationInAction #IndigenousRights #CommunityAction #UnitedWayWRC
