We recently asked our team to nominate their peers for the 2025 Ron Montgomery Community Service Award - carefully named after a man who lived his life invested in community. Winners of the RMCSA award are expected to embody Ron’s commitment to community through their own personal efforts.    We are very proud to announce Amanda Bamburg as this year's winner. Amanda will receive a $100 PC gift card and has selected a charity for Wellington Group of Companies to make a $2500 donation to.   Understandably, Amanda has chosen the Guelph Food Bank to receive the award funds. Here's why:   Since Covid, Amanda has created and run her 'Front Porch Photo Project'. Amanda spends a portion of each summer taking family portraits in exchange for non-perishable food donations to the local food banks with incredible success. In her first year, almost 100 families had their photo taken in exchange for donations, and the program has grown since then. Pictured above is Amanda and the children of one of the families who participated in the Front Porch Photo Project.   A few words from her peer nomination:    "After working full days, you still found time in the evenings and on weekends to take family photos, collecting large, skidded totes full of donations for the Guelph Food Bank."    Your selfless efforts have made a meaningful difference in the lives of so many, and we are honored to recognize your contributions. Also, what an excellent choice of charity! The food banks in our communities have been experiencing more demand than ever, with fewer resources than usual. Did you know that managing and filling prescriptions can be tough for long-haul professional drivers? Crossing borders, unpredictable home times, and doctors who don't understand a driver's challenges can make it tough to have what you need. We know this challenge is real, and we're here to both raise awareness and offer a bit of advice, because your health and alertness are essential for staying safe on the road! If you take prescription medication, it's important to: ✅ Check for Side Effects – Some medications can cause drowsiness, dizziness, or slowed reaction times, which could impact your ability to drive safely. Always review your prescription’s side effects and speak with your doctor or pharmacist about alternatives if needed. ✅ Carry Critical Dosages – Running out of essential medication while on a long haul can put your health and safety at risk. Always carry enough to last your trip, plus extra in case of delays. ✅ Plan for Refills on the Road – Accessing prescriptions while on long hauls can be a challenge, especially when crossing state or provincial lines. Check with your pharmacy about options for nationwide pick-ups, mail-order refills, or digital prescriptions. Some larger chains allow refills at multiple locations, which can be a lifesaver on the road. ✅ Follow DOT & Company Policies – Certain medications are restricted for commercial drivers due to their effects. Always ensure your prescriptions comply with regulations and let your employer know if adjustments are needed. Your safety—and the safety of everyone on the road—depends on being alert, prepared, and healthy.
