This storage facility marks a milestone for Western Archrib, featuring the largest glulam volume we have ever supplied to a single project. Wood can withstand the corrosive properties needed in this type of structure making it the best structural choice. Located on a reclaimed island with challenging soil conditions, it required expertise in long-span timber structures and precision fabrication. We handled the complete design and supply of the structure above the foundation. We provided early design assistance, ensuring a smooth transition into construction. The facility features remarkable 164-foot curved glulam beams, spanning 233ft and covers just under 7 acres. While we have completed thousands of projects, our experience includes over 50 large-span storage facilities, giving us a deep understanding of the unique challenges these structures present. This extensive background gave the client confidence in our ability to deliver on time, ensuring they could meet their commitments. Brentwood College School’s new Academic & Administration Building is designed to bring people together—students, educators, and the community. Sitting along the waterfront, the building includes Learning Neighbourhoods, a Science Superlab, and a new boathouse for the rowing program. But what makes it stand out isn’t just the features—it’s how the space feels. Mass timber brings warmth and character, making it a place where collaboration happens naturally. hcma architecture + design, focused on flexibility; spaces that evolve with the way students learn. Classrooms are open to natural light, outdoor areas connect seamlessly with the indoors, and central gathering spaces encourage interaction, they also brought the outdoors inside by building with glulam. We’re proud to have played a role in this project! What if a bank branch could make you stop and admire the structure? That’s exactly what the project team aimed for with the new Bremer Bank in Minot, North Dakota. This 7,500-square-foot branch combines two locations into one and sits at a busy intersection in Minot’s growing southwest. But it’s the mass timber design that really sets it apart. Using Western Archrib glue-laminated timber, Snow Kreilich Architects leaned into a material that’s as innovative as it is timeless. The exposed wood beams don’t just look stunning, they create a warm, inviting atmosphere while paying homage to the trestle bridges that are part of the region’s history. Here’s why we’re so excited about this project: ✅ Showcasing mass timber: The glulam beams are an immediate focal point that connects the building to its local roots. ✅ Sustainability meets style: Timber offers a lower carbon footprint and brings natural warmth to the design, making it both eco-conscious and beautiful. ✅ Functional and flexible: From the airy double-height customer plaza to private offices, open workspaces, and even an outdoor terrace, the timber elements bring nature to every part of the space. Of course, blending mass timber with materials like high-performance glazing and metal panels wasn’t without its challenges. But those moments of collaboration and problem-solving are exactly why we love working with mass timber. It pushes boundaries and creates opportunities to innovate. Walking into this branch feels like stepping into something special: a space that’s rooted in tradition but built for the future. And for us, it’s proof that mass timber isn’t just a material, it’s a mindset. Interested to know how we can assist in design and supply glulam like this? Chat with Robert Potish from R.E.W. Ever think about how a building can shape the way people learn, collaborate, and grow? Founders Hall at the University of Washington’s Foster School of Business is a perfect example of how wood design can elevate the campus experience for students and faculty alike. We were proud to play a part in this project by designing and supplying the glulam beams and their connections—a key element in creating the warm, inviting spaces that make Founders Hall so special. From classrooms to collaboration hubs, every inch of this five-story building feels designed to inspire. Walking into the light-filled atrium, you’re greeted by a striking mass timber staircase supported by glulam beams. These beams don’t just hold the structure, they tell a story of sustainability and innovation. They connect the building’s purpose to the campus’s commitment to lower carbon emissions while providing a natural, grounded atmosphere that supports UW student’s creativity and focus. Here's what makes this project shine: ✅ A learning space that inspires: The exposed glulam beams and connections bring a natural warmth, creating an environment where students and faculty feel at ease, engaged, and connected to the space around them. ✅ A sustainability statement: By using mass timber, the building achieves a 58% reduction in embodied carbon and a 76% decrease in energy consumption over its lifecycle because the future of learning should be green. ✅ A design for the future: The hybrid structure integrates glulam with other materials, ensuring fire code compliance while showcasing the material’s beauty and versatility. Founders Hall is a learning ecosystem, a place where students work together, dream big, and feel proud of their school’s commitment to the planet. It’s the kind of space that prepares future leaders and inspires them. For us, it was about helping create a space where the next generation can grow, connect, and thrive.
