The Jean Collective

Political Organizations

We inspire and educate female leaders to learn, champion change, and support other women in politics.

About us

The Jean Collective is an initiative developed by women for women. Comprised of local women who bring their own unique skills and experience to the Collective, their goal is to provide a vehicle for local women to achieve their political & leadership aspirations within Southwestern Ontario. In Canada women make-up 50.38% of the population but hold only 18% of mayoral positions and 28% of councillor seats. These percentages are even lower in Sarnia-Lambton where currently there are few women elected to public office.

Founder, The Jean Collective, a Woman in Politics Initiative

🌟 Meet Emily Melo Pacheco, the inspiring owner of Orchard Clothing Company, nestled in the heart of downtown Strathroy at the Shops on Sydenham! 🌟 She is also one of our panelist at the Middlesex Women's Leadership Conference on September 14.  I dropped into her store last week and I was inspired! I can't wait to listen to her speak! Emily’s passion lies in helping women of all shapes and sizes (from XS to 3X) feel confident and beautiful in their bodies. Her journey began during the pandemic when she transformed her home-based business into a thriving storefront, proving that determination and adaptability can lead to incredible success. With a keen eye for fashion and a dedication to her community, Emily has expanded Orchard Clothing three times in just seven years. Today, her spacious and welcoming store offers an array of casual and dressy clothing, footwear, purses, jewelry, bras, and accessories—all at reasonable prices. Orchard Clothing is known for its quality and the personalized shopping experience it offers, making every woman feel special. Emily’s path to entrepreneurship was shaped by diverse experiences, from being a Toronto realtor to working as an analyst at Tarion Warranty and in retail at Sears’ head office. Her rich background, combined with her Portuguese heritage and love for music, adds a unique flavor to everything she does. A former singer and pianist, Emily’s love for music is ever-present, with tunes always playing as she runs her store. Outside of work, Emily enjoys quality time with her family, including her husband Tiago, their two sons, Nathan (13) and Nolan (8), and their two rescue chihuahuas, Tonka and Blanche. Join Emily on her journey and discover why Orchard Clothing is more than just a store—it’s a celebration of style, confidence, and community. Let’s all strive to create change as Jane Goodall has. We may not have her knowledge & experience but we can all work on ‘making a difference, one woman at a time’ as we do at The Jean Collective. www.thejeancollective.ca

IWF 2022 Hall of Fame honoree Jane Goodall is on this year's Climate 100's list that recognizes people's work tackling the climate crisis and protecting nature. At 90, Goodall has remained as dedicated as ever with a travel schedule that has her traveling to new places daily and raising money to protect the environment. It's been a challenging month, but I'm as committed as ever to my mission of creating change, one woman at a time. I firmly believe that we need more women in leadership roles, especially in politics, and I work tirelessly towards that goal through The Jean Collective. For over four years, I've personally funded this initiative, paying all expenses to keep it going. Although I’m not independently wealthy, I’ve managed to secure sponsorships for all our conferences. The Jean Collective operates as a social enterprise, meaning every dollar of revenue, after covering expenses, is reinvested to support future events. In fact, our upcoming September 14 conference is partially funded by the successes of our spring conferences. We are making a real difference: 1. Empowering Women: We've impacted over 500 women through our conferences, virtual events, and campaign school. In 2022, seven women were elected in Lambton County, since then we've expanded our reach to Elgin, Middlesex, and Lambton counties, and we’re determined to continue empowering more women, many of whom we hope will run for office. 2. Advocacy: We’re beginning our advocacy work, standing firmly behind Emily McIntosh and The Women of Ontario Say No. We are also exploring other areas such as the fact that the lack of child care prevents many women from becoming leaders. More work to be done here! 3. Collaborating with AMO: We’re working with the Association of Municipalities of Ontario (AMO) on their Healthy Democracy Project, which aims to attract more diverse candidates to municipal office, support equity-informed leaders, promote respect in democratic processes, and increase civic engagement and voter turnout. [Learn more about the Healthy Democracy Project](https://lnkd.in/gCaxNrhv). 4. Successful Conferences: We’ve hosted three immensely successful conferences in Middlesex, London, and Elgin counties, and we’re gearing up for our next one. 5. We support the YMCA Southwestern Ontario with $5 from event ticket and the annual dividends from our fund at the Sarnia Community Foundation. You can learn more about our work on our website: [www.thejeancollective.ca](https://lnkd.in/gtqs-du6). Now, I need your help. Would you be willing to share our work and encourage women to attend the September 14 conference? Why am I asking? Because right now, I’m feeling like I’m barely keeping my head above water. My oldest son is in Windsor Regional Hospital with a rare type of meningitis, and I’m spending 2-3 days a week there to help with his care. I rarely share personal challenges, but perhaps now is the time. Thank you for taking the time to read this, and for any support you can offer. Please let me know if you need the poster or the QR code for registration.
